It is based on recognised standards (ICAO DTC, W3C - digital comms, One ID initiative) and open interfaces. According to the future expectations of airlines, it is therefore interoperable and compatible with other solutions on the market.

Among these four modules, the Travel Pass application incorporates a register of travel and entry requirements for all destinations, including administrative formalities and new health constraints. A register of test centresPassengers can also use this service to find laboratories that comply with the standards. At the same time, IATA has designed a platform enabling authorised test centres to send their results to passengers, as well as vaccination certificates. The final module is the contactless application itself, with Integrated QR Code.

How it works :

First, the passenger registers their passport in the app, which is then digitised. Then they can go to a laboratory and prove their identity. The test centre can then generate a personal QR Code. As soon as the results are received, they will be sent to the passenger's smartphone. From there, passengers can enter their itinerary into the app and check that everything complies with the formalities expected at their destination. If it is, they will receive an "OK to travel" message. When they arrive at the airport, the integrated QR Code can be scanned by airline and immigration staff to help them through the various stages.

Data security :

While the technological platform used by IATA is based on blockchain technology, the Association points out that no data is stored in a central database.
