We've been talking about it for several months, but theASEAN<\/a> seem to be having bad luck with events. Praised by the WHO for its control of the pandemic, the group of ten ASEAN countries (Burma, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) seemed to have the spread of the virus well under control. By March 2020, all these countries had closed their borders in unison <\/strong>to contain the virus. This strategy has resulted in very low contamination and mortality rates compared with Europe.<\/p>\n

However, since the beginning of March, the pandemic<\/strong> regains a certain vigour<\/strong>r with the variant...<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The tourism industry vital for ASEAN<\/span><\/h3>\n

More than anywhere else, ASEAN is heavily dependent on tourism. In its studies, the WTTC (World Tourism and Travel Council) indicates that worldwide tourism and travel generate 10.4 % of GDP and 10 % of jobs. In theASEAN,<\/strong> these rates are even higher, at 12.8 % and 14.2%<\/strong>but with significant differences from one country to another. For Cambodia, the Philippines and Thailand, the travel industry represents between 20 % and 25 % of GDP and more than 21 % of jobs.<\/strong>. By contrast, Burma, Brunei and Indonesia are the least dependent on tourism, with the sector accounting for no more than 6TP3T of GDP in these three countries.<\/p>\n
