This obligation, which is in line with the European Union's objectives, will continue to progress over time. <strong>Airlines will have to use 2% of biofuel by 2025, rising to 5% by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">Between voluntary and compulsory contributions<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The French government's roadmap for the deployment of biofuels in the aviation sector is highly ambitious. It states <span id=\"page3R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a \"\u00a0<strong>50% substitution target for conventional fossil fuels <\/strong><\/span><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">by<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">biofuels in 2050<\/span><\/strong>, <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consistent with achieving neutrality <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">emissions in France by that date\". <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Air France is going even further in this fuel neutrality objective. It is now offering its passengers the chance to make a voluntary contribution to the purchase of sustainable fuel. From 13 January, passengers will be able to make their contribution on the carrier's website. \"Every euro of voluntary contribution will be invested in the purchase of these fuels\", assures Air France.<\/p>\n<p>The very high cost of production explains Air France's decision. <strong>It is estimated that biofuel costs on average four to eight times more than traditional fuel.<\/strong>. Hence its very low use in aviation.
