Air France<\/a>but also Vueling<\/a> offer non-stop flights from Paris, from CDG for the former and Orly for the latter. Connecting flights are also available via Amsterdam with KLM, Frankfurt with Lufthansa and Copenhagen with SAS Scandinavian Airlines. You can also take the train from Stockholm or Oslo to arrive directly at G\u00f6teborg Central Station.<\/p>\n

Stay<\/span><\/h3>\n

There is no shortage of business hotels in Sweden's second largest city. You won't want to miss the Gothia Towers Hotel<\/strong>. The immense 1,200-room structure, made up of three towers, is one of Sweden's tallest hotels, and certainly the tallest in Gothenburg. It is part of the Svenska M\u00e4ssen conference and exhibition centre. Modern, minimalist and comfortable! (en.gothiatowers.com<\/a> tel: +46-31-750 88 00). Another well-known hotel is the Radisson Blu Scandinavia<\/strong> is located in the city centre, right next to the main railway station. 355 contemporary rooms in pastel tones (www.radissonhotels.com\/en-us\/hotels\/radisson-blu-gothenburg-scandinavia; tel : +46-31-758 50 00). For traditional fans, theEggers Hotel<\/strong> is one of Sweden's oldest. It opened in 1859 and has retained its old-world atmosphere (www.hoteleggers.se\/en<\/a> tel: +46-31-333 44 40). Another accommodation located in a historic building, the Clarion Hotel Post<\/strong> occupies Gothenburg's former central post office. 500 cosy rooms, a rooftop swimming pool heated to 30\u00b0 for winter bathing. Eating out<\/span><\/h3>\n

For a quick bite to eat at a reasonable price, there's no better place than the central market. Right in the heart of the city, you'll find around twenty food shops and restaurants (www.storasaluhallen.se<\/a>). On the go and for less than 15 euros, K\u00e5ges<\/strong> offers traditional Swedish cuisine. We go there without a reservation! \u00a8To eat the best Swedish open sandwiches with prawns (sm\u00f6rg\u00e5s<\/span>), we'll be tempted by Heaven 23<\/strong> in the Gothia Towers Hotel. The sandwiches are huge and succulent, and the view over Gothenburg's rooftops is breathtaking! Restaurang 28+<\/strong> is Michelin-starred. It has an excellent reputation for its inventive, contemporary cuisine and one of the best wine cellars in Sweden.<\/p>\n

Discover<\/span><\/h3>\n

Gothenburg's historic centre is relatively compact and easy to visit. The historic old town around the canals stretches between the central station and the former headquarters of the Swedish East India Company, now the Gothenburg Historical Museum. It's also hard to miss Avenyn<\/strong>This long, linear boulevard crosses the city, looking like the Champs-Elys\u00e9es with its imposing 19th-century houses, and ends with a grand finale at the Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts.<\/p>\n

The Haga district is probably Gothenburg's most charming district<\/strong>. This is a perfectly preserved 19th century, with opulent ashlar and brick buildings and neo-classical villas. Haga is the ideal place to go out, with its bistros, clubs and nightclubs.<\/p>\n

The Mus\u00e9e des Beaux Arts has one of the finest collections of paintings in Northern Europe,<\/strong> including a number of Impressionists and paintings by Picasso (goteborgskonstmuseum.se<\/a>). Other museums worth visiting include the Gothenburg Historical Museum (goteborgsstadsmuseum.se<\/a>) offers an interactive journey through the city's turbulent history. Finally, the R\u00f6hsska Design Museum has a formidable collection of Asian art and very Scandinavian design (rohsska.se<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Getting around<\/span><\/h3>\n

Gothenburg has a excellent public transport system<\/strong>In particular, trams. Two bus companies also take passengers from the airport into the city. You can buy tickets online your bus ticket to the airport<\/strong> (www.flygbussarna.se) as well as a day, week or individual ticket for city transport (www.vasttrafik.se<\/a>). Taxis, on the other hand, do not have a standard price. It all depends on the taxi company you use...<\/p>\n

Buy<\/span><\/h3>\n

G\u00f6teborg's sustainability credentials an impressive collection of recycled clothing boutiques<\/strong>antiques and design. Haga has many of these shops (hagashopping.se<\/a>). More conventional but very central, Nordstan is a shopping centre with around a hundred shops, not forgetting NK Nordiska Kompaniet, the most luxurious department stores' in town. The good news is that there's no need to change euros into kroner. Everything can be paid for by credit card, and Gothenburg is one of the world's leading cities for contactless payment.<\/p>\n
