{"id":133363,"date":"2022-10-11T11:51:16","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T09:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=133363"},"modified":"2026-01-19T16:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T15:01:46","slug":"tgv-spain-portugal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/tgv-spain-portugal","title":{"rendered":"The Iberian Peninsula is seeing a proliferation of high-speed rail projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Internationally, the <strong>SNCF<\/strong> opened a second route on Friday for its low-cost subsidiary <strong>Ouigo Spain<\/strong> between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/madrid-azca-castellana-20171204.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Madrid<\/strong> <\/a>and <strong>Valencia<\/strong>a year and a half after the one between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sncf-ouigo-espagne-20200923.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish capital and Barcelona<\/a> (via Zaragoza and Tarragona), which has been used by three million passengers. The new service is operated in <strong>Euroduplex high-speed train <\/strong>Alstom's double-decker train will make five round trips a day, two more than initially planned, according to the company. This will enable it to carry <strong>35,600 passengers every week<\/strong>. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes between Madrid-Chamartin-Clara-Campoamor and Valencia-Joaquim Sorolla stations. Tickets start at \u20ac9 and can only be purchased online from the Ouigo.com\/es website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/tunnel-danemark-allemagne-20221025.html\/\" data-id=\"135183\">A rail and road tunnel to bring Denmark and Germany closer together<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The SNCF has no intention of stopping there, and as part of its call for tenders <strong>Ouigo Spain <\/strong>will serve <strong>Alicante <\/strong>(via Albacete) in the first half of 2023 with two daily return services, then <strong>Seville <\/strong>(via Cordoba) at the end of 2023. Its ambition is to carry <strong>10 million passengers <\/strong>annually thanks to some 30 daily departures from the Iberian peninsula. As a reminder, the Madrid-Barcelona line is connected to the French network at Barcelona Sants station following the breakage earlier this year of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/arret-cooperation-renfe-sncf-20220216.html\/\">former partnership with Renfe<\/a>the Spanish national rail company. There is currently a daily return service between Paris-Gare de Lyon and Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sncf-test-tgv-paris-barcelone-20221213.html\/\" data-id=\"138073\">SNCF doubles its Paris-Barcelona service<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Spain whets appetites as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/roberto-rinaudo-trenitalia-france-20220124.html\/\">Trenitalia <\/a><\/strong>could launch its <strong>Frecciarossa<\/strong>its \"red arrows\", under the brand name <strong>Iryo <\/strong>from the end of November with virtually the same services: from Madrid to Barcelona and Zaragoza on the northern route, and from Madrid to Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valencia and Alicante on the southern route. Renfe will soon have two competitors for its classic AVE high-speed trains and its low-cost Avlo offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trenitalia-iryo-espagne-20220817.html\/\" data-id=\"129419\">Trenitalia's \"red arrows\" target Spain<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-les-lignes-a-grande-vitesse-lisbonne-porto-et-lisbonne-madrid-a-nouveau-sur-de-bons-rails\">Lisbon-Porto and Lisbon-Madrid high-speed lines back on track<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><p>Projects are also gathering pace further west, with the <strong>new high-speed links Spain-Portugal Madrid-Lisbon \/ Porto<\/strong>. The Portuguese government has relaunched its project for a high-speed line between Lisbon and Porto, the country's second city, which will be linked by <strong>1h15 <\/strong>by 2030 compared with <strong>2h49 <\/strong>today. Largely financed by European funds, almost <strong>3 billion euros <\/strong>and <strong>six years of work <\/strong>from <strong>2024 <\/strong>will be needed to build this 336-kilometre line. The work will be carried out in three phases, the first of which will be between Porto and Soure, close to the historic university city of Coimbra, reducing the journey time to 1 hour 59 minutes by 2028. And, above all, to get the high-speed link between Lisbon and Madrid back on track (via Badajoz and Toledo), the opening of which was initially announced for... 2013!
