This \"sustainable aviation fuel\" is seen as one of the major solutions for decarbonising air transport. Air France-KLM has announced the signing of two contracts, one with Finnish supplier Neste for<strong> the supply of one million tonnes of SAF<\/strong> from next year until 2030. The other, signed with the American company DG Fuels LLC, covers the period 2027 to 2036 and involves the supply of 600,000 tonnes. \"\u00a0<em>Discussions are underway with other suppliers with a view to progressively establishing a diversified network capable of meeting sustainable fuel needs worldwide.<\/em>\" states Air France-KLM in its press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/saf-carburant-aerien-acceleration-20220930.html\/\" data-id=\"132497\">FAS, the new green gold for airlines<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many players in the air transport industry, Air France-KLM has set itself the objective of incorporating <strong>10 % of SAF by 2030<\/strong>This is more than the 6% required by the European Union. These first contracts will contribute to this objective <strong>3% of these 10% of incorporation<\/strong>emissions, avoiding 4.7 million tonnes of CO\u2082 over the period 2023-2036. This SAF supply is also RSB or ISCC+ certified, guaranteeing sustainability and the non-use of palm oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two contracts signed with Neste and DG Fuels will above all contribute to the <strong>developing the production of sustainable aviation fuel<\/strong>which, until now, has been infinitesimal. As a result, prices are still three to four times higher than conventional paraffin. With demand growing, the SAF sector is being set up around the world, particularly in the United States, while production capacity in France is still limited. Even though Total recently announced the launch of a \"zero oil\" refinery at Grandpuits, in Seine-et-Marne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sncf-photovoltaique-trains-20221026.html\/\" data-id=\"135345\">SNCF signs mega contract for photovoltaic energy<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>While Air France-KLM is working on other sustainable solutions such as e-fuels, hydrogen and direct capture before storage of carbon in the air, the Group intends to use all these initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, <strong>reduce its CO\u2082 emissions by 30 % by 2030<\/strong> compared with 2019, measured per passenger\/km. \" <em>Decarbonisation is the greatest challenge facing air transport. Air France-KLM is using all available levers to reduce its environmental impact: fleet renewal, eco-piloting and increased use of certified sustainable aviation fuels.<\/em>\" said Benjamin Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Air France-KLM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-air-france-klm-deja-une-longue-histoire-avec-le-saf\">Air France-KLM: a long history with SAF<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the airline group's first experiment with sustainable aviation fuel. KLM was the <strong>the world's leading company<\/strong> to carry out a commercial flight partially powered by SAF in 2011, and more recently a flight using synthetic fuel. Air France also tested this solution in the middle of the decade, on 78 flights on routes from Paris-Orly to Toulouse and Nice. Last year, the airline also carried out<strong> its first long-haul flight powered by SAF<\/strong> produced in France. In accordance with the French law in force since the beginning of the year, Air France-KLM is incorporating up to 1 % of SAF on its flights departing from France and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<\/aside>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Air France-KLM group has announced the signing of two contracts for the supply of 1.6 million tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel.
