{"id":136603,"date":"2022-11-21T12:57:45","date_gmt":"2022-11-21T11:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=136603"},"modified":"2023-02-16T16:37:41","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T15:37:41","slug":"fnam-air-transport-takeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/fnam-air-transport-takeover","title":{"rendered":"FNAM: prices on the rise and a timid return of business customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oil prices have risen by 50% in the space of a year, wages have been revised upwards in the face of inflation, and the dollar - the sector's currency of exchange - has appreciated by 40% against the euro: like all economic players, the air transport sector is experiencing strong pressure on its production costs. \"\u00a0<em>Faced with this situation, we were obliged to<strong>automatically raise our prices<\/strong><\/em>\" explained Marc Rochet, head of Air Cara\u00efbes and French Bee, at a recent press briefing held by the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration nationale de l'aviation marchande (FNAM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Direction G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC), the price of air tickets from France rose by 18.9% compared with September 2021. \"\u00a0<em>But with this price trend, we're barely breaking even, or even below the increase we experienced.<\/em>says Marc Rochet.<em> We can therefore expect further rises.<\/em>\" . However, while the price surge seen in recent months is set to continue, it is likely to be more modest, as airlines now have less room to manoeuvre when it comes to<strong> not to break the upturn in demand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trafic-aerien-france-octobre-20221124.html\/\" data-id=\"136769\">Air traffic continues to improve in France in October<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Because air transport has finally emerged from the crisis. \"\u00a0<em>Both the desire and the need to travel are there<\/em>\" said a delighted Pascal de Izaguirre, President of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration nationale de l'aviation marchande (FNAM) and also CEO of Corsair. After a busy summer,<strong> next winter is shaping up very nicely<\/strong>. \"\u00a0<em>Commitments are good, particularly on long-haul routes, with a strong recovery towards the United States, sun destinations and the departure point for cruises.<\/em>\" emphasised Marc Rochet. The \"revenge travel\" effect is driving the recovery, with tourists looking for a long-haul holiday or VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) customers who are once again able to visit their loved ones after long months. In this context, traffic to the French Overseas Departments and Territories, for example, has returned to pre-pandemic levels, and even exceeded them last August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-fnam.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-136643\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-fnam.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-fnam-300x200-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em>A recovery driven by leisure travellers rather than business customers.<\/em> <em>(c) Gwen Le Bras for ADP Group<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alain Battisti, CEO of Chalair and former chairman of the FNAM, nevertheless qualifies this positive assessment: \"\u00a0<em>Despite the perceived upturn, traffic in August was at<strong> 87.5% of its level in 2019<\/strong>13 points lower. Which is not neutral<\/em>\" . With Asian long-haul destinations still closed and North America only reopening in the summer, traffic for the first nine months of the year is still 22 points down on the excellent year seen in 2019. \"\u00a0<em>Paris hubs are performing well, but some airports are experiencing traffic shortfalls<\/em>\" says Alain Battisti, referring in particular to the case of Bordeaux, which has seen 1.5 million passengers take to the skies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, while leisure and VFR customers have largely contributed to the current good results, this is not the case for business travellers. \"\u00a0<em>Businesses are seeing less of a recovery in traffic than other segments<\/em>\" says Alain Battisti. While the flow of business travellers to North America has rapidly reached good levels, Franco-French and European services are recording <strong>significant loss of corporate traffic<\/strong>. A phenomenon that is set to continue, as Alain Battisti points out that \".\u00a0<em>by 2023, some major CAC 40 groups will have cut their air travel budgets by 50%, or even by two-thirds<\/em>\" .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/gbta-europe-sommet-durable-20221116.html\/\" data-id=\"136309\">GBTA Europe: a first sustainable summit for the environmental time trial<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The air transport industry explains this decline in the number of business customers in a number of ways, including anticipation of the economic recession, but also and above all changes in working habits and the use of videoconferencing and, of course, the application of the<strong> increasingly strict CSR policies<\/strong>. \"\u00a0<em>Businesses are more involved than governments or individuals in reducing their environmental footprint<\/em>\" says Pascal de Izaguirre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence the importance of the issue of the impact of air transport on the environment. \"\u00a0<em>This is the major challenge of the coming decades for a sector resolutely committed to its energy transition,<\/em> emphasises Pascal de Izaguirre. <em>It is the first to have drawn up a roadmap with precise targets for achieving decarbonisation by 2050.<\/em>\" . The President of the FNAM therefore spoke out against \"aviation bashing\", which \".\u00a0<em>in a disproportionate and ideological manner<\/em>\" makes the sector \"\u00a0<em>a <strong>scapegoat<\/strong> and hides the reality of this commitment<\/em>\" .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-cdg2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-136645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-cdg2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/adp-cdg2-300x168-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em>(c) Gwen Le Bras for ADP Group<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While aircraft manufacturers and airlines are working on the innovations and technological breakthroughs that will make the sector's energy transition possible, the main lever for optimising emissions today remains the <strong>sustainable aviation fuel<\/strong>more commonly known as SAF, for \"sustainable aviation fuel\". For the time being, however, this fuel is as rare as it is expensive, especially in France. While SAF is gaining ground in the United States thanks to subsidies and tax incentives, its production in France remains infinitesimal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/saf-carburant-aerien-acceleration-20220930.html\/\" data-id=\"132497\">FAS, the new green gold for airlines<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>\"\u00a0<em>If we had SAF at a good price and in sufficient quantities today, we could go much further, as today's aircraft engines can incorporate 50%.<\/em>emphasises Pascal de Izaguirre. <em>Targets have been set for 2019 with incorporation quotas, but we have no visibility on production capacity or costs.<\/em>\" . Hence the FNAM's urgent invitation to the government to <strong>develop an industrial sector in the region<\/strong>This will create jobs and strengthen the country's energy independence by bringing all the stakeholders, including the energy companies, together around one table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the FNAM is also asking the public authorities not to penalise, <strong>by giving in to excessive taxation<\/strong>This is all the more true given that, after two years of pandemics, major debts and now an economic crisis, the sector's economic health is still fragile. Particularly as, after two years of pandemic, high debts and now an economic crisis, the sector's economic health is still fragile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aeroports-la-pagaille-evitee-mais-des-points-a-ameliorer\"><strong>Airports: chaos avoided, but areas for improvement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As business travellers will have noticed, French airports have been relatively unaffected by the chaos that has reigned in Europe's major hubs in recent months, whether at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/amsterdam-schiphol-menace-20220704.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schiphol<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/british-airways-heathrow-court-courrier-20220804.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heathrow<\/a> or Germany. \"\u00a0<em>There have been difficulties at border crossings and with air traffic flow this summer, but nothing like what has happened elsewhere, with flight cancellations in their thousands.<\/em>s\", notes Alain Bernard, Director of Operations and Cargo at Air France. However, the statistics show that<strong> an increase in the percentage of flights delayed by more than 15 minutes<\/strong>This will involve 34.8% of flights in 2022, compared with 28.3% in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, the FNAM's ambition is to return to pre-covid quality standards, i.e. with border crossings taking less than 30 minutes and 10 minutes for connecting flights. To achieve this, \"\u00a0<em>the number of border police officers must be increased as quickly as possible in order to<strong> return to 2019 levels<\/strong><\/em>\" says Alain Bernard, while, for example, the number of flights planned by Air France for the end of the year is higher than this summer. <em>\"We have been reassured about the peak Christmas period.<\/em>\" he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to a sufficient number of staff, the FNAM is also proposing to go further in terms of digitising the passenger journey. If <strong>access to the PARAFE system has been extended<\/strong> to UK and North American nationals this summer, Alain Bernard would welcome the future eligibility of \"\u00a0<em>all passengers with a biometric passport and families travelling with minors over the age of 12<\/em>\" .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a cause for concern with the planned roll-out in May of a new system for checking non-EU nationals, the biometric EES system, which stands for \"Entry-Exit Schengen Zone\".
