How are winter sports resorts dealing with global warming?<\/p>\n

Jacques Guillot - We know that the climate in France is going to change, but we don't know in which direction: will it warm up or cool down? In any case, the resorts are preparing for this climate change. Ski lifts are currently being built to take skiers up, of course, but also to take them back down to their accommodation. At the same time, snow production networks are being designed to cope with all possible scenarios. A great deal of work has gone into the design of the slopes and their operation... everything is designed to allow skiing in shallow snow.<\/p>\n

More generally, how do these stations see the future?<\/h2>\n

J. G. - In terms of entertainment and services, the resorts are diversifying their offer. For example, accommodation is no longer just a place to sleep. They are living spaces, with interaction between the various flats, which can be modulated according to demand so that \"tribes\" can get together. In addition, as skiing is only practised for four hours a day on average, the resorts are developing other areas of interest, ranging from well-being to gastronomy, as well as discovering the flora and fauna, stargazing, paragliding or ice driving... Four-hour ski passes are offered so that everyone can ski \u00e0 la carte. The resorts are also expanding their offer by organising a host of sporting and cultural events.<\/p>\n

Will the resorts of the future be even greener?<\/h2>\n

J. G. - As far as ski lifts are concerned, when we renovate or create new ones, everything is done to ensure that the equipment is safe, comfortable and durable, with as many cables as possible buried underground. What's more, the equipment is more resistant to wind and can be used in most weather conditions. In older resorts, the trend is to refurbish buildings while preserving the character of the place, the regional architecture and keeping people in the area.
