A hotel that positions Melia as a<strong> a new key player in corporate MICE events in Barcelona<\/strong>The hotel is attached to the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, a conference centre whose management has also been entrusted to Melia by the new owner of both venues, Tyrus Capital.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\">\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/melia-double-rafael-nadal-20221216.html\/\" data-id=\"138337\">Meli\u00e1 Hotels: winning service with Rafael Nadal<\/a><\/p>\r\n<\/aside>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This new place of choice in Barcelona's business tourism sector is<strong> the culmination of a long period of uncertainty<\/strong> for this luxury hotel, originally designed to host sports delegations at the 1992 Olympic Games. Formerly managed by Husa Hotels, this prestigious establishment, surrounded by vast gardens overlooking the city, became a Fairmont hotel in 2014. In other words, even before it became part of Accor.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>While, according to sources quoted by the Spanish press, the hotel had been accumulating losses since it opened, the pandemic dealt a fatal blow to its operations. <strong>Closed since 2020<\/strong>It has still not reopened its doors today, and its employees have been temporarily laid off. In the meantime, the establishment has been put up for sale by its owner, the company Barcelona Project, which has gone into insolvency. Owned by the Ben Nasser family, close to the Saudi monarchy, Barcelona Project ended up selling its assets to <strong>one of its main creditors<\/strong>Tyrus Capital, in agreement with Barcelona City Council.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-de-la-desherence-au-prestige-retrouve\">From neglect to restored prestige<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A new page in the history of Rey Juan Carlos will now be written under the aegis of Melia. \"\u00a0<em>We are convinced that the reopening of this hotel will be a success. <strong>a success that will revive this emblematic asset<\/strong> of Barcelona<\/em>\" said Tony Chedraoui, CEO of Tyrus. On completion of a programme of renovations in the coming months, the hotel will reopen under the Gran Meli\u00e1 luxury brand and will bear the name 'Miranda de Pedralbes', in homage to the residential area in which the hotel is located.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This move upmarket will be accompanied by the introduction of attractive services, including a signature spa\".\u00a0<em>managed by a leading international partner<\/em>\" says the Spanish group, as well as a \"\u00a0<em>of the highest international prestige<\/em>\" according to Melia. In addition, while the Spanish hotelier has experience of trendy hotels thanks to its lifestyle brand ME, the hotel will feature a lively rooftop terrace. \"\u00a0<em>In alliance with the best partners in the catering and music sectors, and <strong>making the most of the exceptional swimming pool and garden area<\/strong>The hotel will also offer a cutting-edge urban pool club designed to amaze guests.<\/em>\" says the group.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" data-id=\"140069\" class=\"wp-image-140069\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/palau-de-congressos-de-catalunya.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/palau-de-congressos-de-catalunya.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/palau-de-congressos-de-catalunya-300x200-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>The Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, also managed by the Meli\u00e0 Group.<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The ambition is clearly stated: to turn the hotel into a prestigious urban resort, a \"\u00a0<em>destination hotel<\/em>\u00a0In the words of Gabriel Escarrer, Meli\u00e1's CEO, the hotel is a \"must\" for leisure guests, business travellers and conference delegates alike. With 395 rooms and 37 suites before its closure, the hotel had<strong>around twenty meeting rooms<\/strong> ranging from 34 m<sup>2<\/sup> more than 1000 m<sup>2<\/sup>with a capacity of 500 to 600 people. What's more, its vast gardens covering 25,000 m<sup>2<\/sup> offered just as many solutions for beautiful outdoor events.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>There's no doubt that the hotel, with all these refurbishments, will retain its 'business resort' spirit, strengthened by the link with its neighbour,<strong> the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya<\/strong>. With its contemporary allure recognised by a national architecture prize in 2001, this conference centre comprises some thirty spaces, including a 2,500-seat auditorium. A major venue for corporate meetings in the Catalan capital that Melia will now operate in synergy with the future Gran Meli\u00e0 Miranda de Pedralbes. The hotel group is no novice in this field, with its experience in the management of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/palma-majorque-palais-congres-20190212.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Palma de Mallorca conference and convention centre<\/a>. He therefore believes that \".\u00a0<em>the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya will soon be considered one of the best in Europe<\/em>\" .<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Closed since
