However, business travellers will have to wait until early 2024 to take advantage of the space in its 440 rooms, which are currently being renovated.

TheOrchard Road also awaits an EDITION hotel, the luxury lifestyle brand co-developed by Marriott and Ian Scharger. Scheduled for autumn, its 190 rooms, five bars and restaurants, a rooftop pool and 600 m2 of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space. Still near Orchard Road, just opposite the Shangri-La Singapore, a trendy hotel, The Standard, will also open its doors in 2023, with 143 rooms and meeting rooms, and another highlight: an infinity pool surrounded by a tree-lined courtyard.

Singapore will also see the emergence of the Crest Collection of the Ascott Group, with the transformation of the former Riverside Hotel Robertson Quay, which will reopen at the end of 2023 as "The Robertson House by The Crest Collection". With its focus on sustainable development, the destination will also welcome two lush, luxurious urban resorts in the heart of the city, including the Artyzen, a 142-room hotel with a contemporary design topped by a rooftop garden with a 25-metre swimming pool. In the vertical oasis style, the Pan Pacific Orchard goes beyond all limits with its 23 floors organised around four landscaped terraces. Waterfalls, a fine sandy beach, lush green lawns and an abundance of flora: this 347-room hotel is all about the great outdoors, with the top floors of the Cloud Terrace dedicated to corporate events.

Overview of hotel openings in France in 2023

Southeast Asia

Among the major metropolises of South-East Asia, Bangkok is as attractive as ever for the development of new establishments. While the openings announced in Singapore are geared towards the very top end of the market, the Bangkok market is still very attractive, those expected in the Thai capital are more varied in style. The IHG group, for example, will be opening both a budget hotel this year, the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Bangkok Central Pier, and an aparthotel, the Staybridge Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit. But above all, the group is preparing to do double duty with the InterContinental brand, firstly with the reopening in the second half of the year of the InterContinental Bangkok, following a renovation that will give the establishment a sophisticated design for its rooms, as well as its event space, equipped with the latest technology in its 19 rooms. In the summer, the brand will also open a new hotel in the Thonglor district, the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit, with 241 rooms, two restaurants, three bars and two meeting rooms.

For its part, the Marriott plans to open seven hotels in the Thai capital this year, including the first member of the Autograph Collection in Thailand, the Madi Paidi Bangkok, and the first appearance of the Moxy brand in Ratchaprasong, where the capital's major shopping centres are located. Among these developments, the American group is also expecting three Marriott Executive Apartments on Sukhumvit and two Courtyard by Marriott hotels, including one at Suvarnabhumi airport.

As for Accor, its budget Ibis Styles chain will open in Bangkok. the world's largest hotel in mid-year, the ibis Styles Bangkok Twin Towers, offering 600 rooms, three restaurants, an outdoor swimming pool and meeting rooms, all just a stone's throw from the business district.

TRIBE Bangkok Sukhumvit 39

Accor's development is also based on the classic, with a 178-room Mercure hotel in the Sukhumvit district, the mid-range lifestyle with the TRIBE Bangkok Sukhumvit 39, and a 207-key Novotel Living for extended stays. The extended stay segment is another example of the diversity of the hotel offer currently being developed in the Thai capital, with openings expected in 2023 including a Citadines apartment-hotel and a coliving-style lyf from Ascott.

New business hotels on the radar in other major cities in South-East Asia. In 2023, Accor expects, for example, the Novotel Phnom Penh Boeng Keng Kong in Cambodia and the Novotel New Yogyakarta Airport Kulon Progo in Indonesia, the Mövenpick Jakarta Pecenongan and the Pullman Hai Phong in Vietnam. For its part, IHG will see its lifesyle Hotel Indigo brand make its debut in Vietnam with the Hotel Indigo Saigon The City, as well as in Kuala Lumpur, with the Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park. The Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur City Centre is also expected to open in the Malaysian capital. As far as long-stay hotels are concerned, the Singaporean group Ascott will be continuing to build up its network in the region's capitals, notably in Jakarta, where preparations are under way for an Ascott, an Oakwood, two Somersets and three Citadines, as well as in Kuala Lumpur, where a Citadines, a Lyf and two Somersets are expected, and in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, where an Ascott and two Citadines are in the pipeline.

Interview: Gilles Cretallaz, COO of Dusit International

Australia, China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore: all these major business destinations will see new hotels open this year.
