At least, that's the choice made by Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Metropolis, who has launched work to demolish the Acropolis Convention and Exhibition Centre. And this,<strong> without waiting for the new one to emerge from the ground<\/strong>The project has been planned for several years in place of the March\u00e9 d'Int\u00e9r\u00eat National (MIN) Fleurs, near Nice C\u00f4te d'Azur airport and its multimodal interchange. All the more reason for concern among Nice's business tourism professionals, led by hoteliers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/nice-palais-congres-20211025.html\/\" data-id=\"115203\">In Nice, the \"Convention Centre of the Future\" takes shape (October 2021)<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Will they be reassured by the announcement, made last week by the mayor of Nice, of the<strong>opening of a convention centre in 2025<\/strong> at the Oceans Summit organised by the UN, France and Costa Rica? Because - <strong>big surprise<\/strong> - this <strong>10 000 m\u00b2<\/strong> housing exhibition space and a 1,500-seat auditorium, will not be built on the plain of the Var, but on the Amiral Infernet car park in the Port Lympia, Nice's Old Port to the east of the city. A far cry from all the hotels that have sprung up or have just been renovated at great expense in the Grand Arenas business district, such as the Radisson and Crowne Plaza, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/okko-interview-solenne-devys-20210610.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Okko Hotel<\/a>Holiday Inn Express, B&amp;B H\u00f4tel, Sheraton and soon Moxy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-les-hotels-du-grand-arenas-accusent-le-coup\">Grand Arenas hotels take a beating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\" C<em>I just don't get it<\/em>said a hotel manager on condition of anonymity. <em>The absence of a convention centre for several years was already a disaster, but now <strong>it's the last straw<\/strong>. The city brought us here to compete with Barcelona, promising us a convention centre with a 2,400-seat amphitheatre, and we end up with a facility at the other end of Nice and an auditorium for 1,500 people!<\/em> \". The promise of maintaining an exhibition centre in a rehabilitated MIN Fleurs, to speed up the work, is seen as a stopgap measure. \" <em>Exhibitors will be favouring budget hotels and few visitors will be staying in our hotels.<\/em> \"he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/nice-crowne-plaza-arenas-20210621.html\/\" data-id=\"110947\">Nice: a Crowne Plaza-Holiday Inn Express duo in the Arenas district<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>\" <em>This new location has been a blow to our morale<\/em> \"says another hotelier in the area. And he consoles himself by imagining a domino effect. \" <em>Conventions in the port will primarily benefit hotels in the city centre, which could bring in more leisure guests when they are fully booked.<\/em> \". Mama Shelter, scheduled to open in 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/mama-shelter-lisbonne-province-20211110.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a 100-room hotel<\/a> near the Vieux Port, on the other hand, should be delighted with its future location. Just like the La Perouse hotel on the Quai Rauba Capeu, which is due to undergo renovation in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other events during the transition period<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Metropolitan Council remains calm, pointing out that the west of Nice has no shortage of large-scale sites capable of hosting congresses, such as the Allianz Riviera stadium and the Palais Nikaia Zenith. \" <em>The temporary absence of a convention centre is a major <strong>an opportunity to rethink the Congress business<\/strong> in Nice<\/em>says Lauriano Azinheirinha, the new Managing Director of the Nice C\u00f4te d'Azur Metropolitan Tourist Office. <em>In March, the hotel industry posted an average occupancy rate of 61%, even though Acropolis is already closed. The site hosted 23 major congresses, generating \u20ac63m in spin-offs. Our aim is to match this figure with other types of event.<\/em> \". He goes on to mention the Rugby World Cup and Ironman World Championships in 2023, the arrival of the Tour de France in 2024, the return of the Hopman Cup in tennis...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/nice-aeroport-gare-bioclimatique-20231121.html\/\" data-id=\"162601\">Nice airport to get new bioclimatic terminal<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A low-cost convention centre for the Metropolis&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Christian Estrosi has pulled off a \"coup\" with his project to build a convention centre in the Vieux Port car park in Nice, as the bill will be<strong> paid to 90% by the United Nations and the French government <\/strong>as part of the hosting from 5 to 15 June 2025 of the <strong>Oceans Summit<\/strong>. The city of Nice plans to spend only around \u20ac6m on a modern facility that it will then inherit. In terms of international visibility and economic spin-offs for the city, some 20,000 delegates and a hundred or so heads of state are expected to attend the ten-day international conference on preserving the world's seas, which will also include a congress of coastal cities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/nice-palais-des-congres-avril-20250320.html\/\" data-id=\"194835\">Nice's new convention centre due to open at the end of April<\/a><\/p><\/aside>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abandoning the planned site near the airport, the convention centre will be built on a car park in the port of Lympia for the Ocean Summit in June 2025, leaving the new Arenas business hotels in
