France's sixth-largest hub has seen more traffic in the past than it does today. In 2019, the airport welcomed 9.1 million passengers. It ranked 5th in France and 3rd in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>L'<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/peu-de-nouveautes-pour-la-saison-ete-sur-leuroairport-bale-mulhouse-20230321.html\/\">Euroairport<\/a> remains the largest airport in the Grand Est region<\/strong>well ahead of Strasbourg and Metz-Nancy-Lorraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To avoid bottlenecks at security checkpoints, which will be tested in 2022, airport management has introduced a series of measures for the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-automates-et-self-check-in-en-action\">Automats and self check-in in action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Since last year, EuroAirport has put in place <strong>a queue management system<\/strong>. This involves positioning staff at certain key passenger crossing points (such as immigration\/passport\/security control, for example), in order to better manage flows.<\/li><li>The introduction of<strong> technologies<\/strong> such as Automated Border Control, to complement existing police stations, helps to optimise traffic flows. The airport currently has 5 automated border controls. A further 5 automated border crossings are planned for this summer.<\/li><li>Some time in June, <strong>a self-service check-in test area will be set up<\/strong>. For a total of <strong>4 first machines<\/strong> \"self check-in It is important to note that this is a test phase that will serve as a learning experience for the airport, which will then evaluate the actions to be implemented at the end of the test phase.<\/li><li>Greater flexibility in the use of space, with the ability to handle different types of traffic (Schengen, non-Schengen, domestic flights).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the longer term, there is a project to expand the terminal, which could be completed after 2026. It includes a <strong>30% expansion of terminal space<\/strong>. Passenger volumes are expected to be between 12 and 15 million a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/parc-expo-mulhouse-dimension-20231220.html\/\" data-id=\"164447\">MICE: the Parc Expo in Mulhouse is thinking bigger<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The train, the airport's \"iron\" snake<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The project for a <strong>rail link <\/strong>with <strong>dedicated station <\/strong>at the Euroairport has been on the drawing board for at least 25 years. As long ago as 2001, French Transport Minister Jean-Claude Gayssot and the head of the Federal Department of the Environment and Transport, Moritz Leuenberger, agreed to speed up the feasibility study for a rail link between the airport and the cities of Mulhouse (with an extension to Colmar\/Strasbourg) and Basel. 21 years later, not a single stone has been laid. Even though the Swiss Confederation, the Canton of Basel and the Haut Rhin Prefecture have recognised the project as being in the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction of the 6 km railway line, which has been studied on several occasions, is now well behind schedule. Initially, there was talk of bringing the infrastructure into service in 2025, then 2028. Now it will not be until 2030 that the Euroairport will have its train line. This is despite the obvious advantages of such a line. It will enable Mulhouse to be reached in just 12 minutes and Basel in 10 minutes. The project, costing \u20ac338 million, is due to be launched in 2026.
