Three methods were used: a creative exploration via scrapbooks filled in by passengers, railway workers and public figures; a newspaper broadcast live on the Internet and in four stations; and a survey translated into six languages to which 220,000 people responded, including 5,500 Europeans outside France. Here are some of the main points to emerge from this consultation.<\/p>\n

For 90 % of the French and more than 76 % of other Europeans, high speed is a practical and efficient mode of transport. Europeans have the same basic travel requirements: safety, regularity, cleanliness and information (especially during disruptions). The Germans and the French give priority to efficiency and have little demand for services. On the other hand, the English, Italians and Spanish want a top-of-the-range offer that includes services.<\/p>\n

There are three types of ideal traveller: the \"bubble\" type, for a comfortable and serene journey; the \"arrow\" type, for getting on with one's activities; and the \"rocket\" type, for getting on with one's daily routine and living intensely during the journey. The train should be a place to live and a place for social interaction. Europeans expect more than efficiency and comfort: they want to combine speed and pleasure.<\/p>\n

Based on this data, SNCF is studying new living environments on board TGVs. The \"cocoon\", a customisable space with storage space, bay windows, adjustable seats and lighting; the \"neighbourhood\", a place to share with family or other passengers; and the \"village square\", platforms redeveloped as convivial areas...<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
