Among the team-building activities offered by the hotels of the Dutch Bilderberg group, the haka features prominently. From New Zealand to Zeeland, from the homeland of the Maoris to the other land of cheese - but certainly not rugby! - ,<strong> the vibrations of this traditional dance <\/strong>has spread far and wide across the continents, and has even found its way into company meetings. It's a butterfly effect that owes everything to the All Blacks, whose myth is based as much on their near invincibility as on this warlike chant that prefaces their matches. Ka mate, ka mate! ka ora! ka ora! The tribal dance is gripping, even for those with no knowledge of the oval ball who have undoubtedly seen it at least once in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/monde-voyage-rugby-france-2023-20230907.html\/\" data-id=\"155965\">The world of travel turns oval<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Chest-beating, throwing forearms in defiance, sticking out tongues: during the World Cup, many employees may have the opportunity to pretend they're Aaron Smith or Dan Carter during their seminar, <strong>the time of a Rugby World Cup trend animation<\/strong>. \"\u00a0<em>Over the last four months, demand for this activity has been enormous, and we've been receiving applications almost every day.<\/em> \"explains Christiane Reynier, director of the Claude Reynier Production agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activity most sought after by companies: short sessions in the early morning, before lunch or in the late afternoon, as offered by this events agency in particular. \"\u00a0<em>Our 'haka men' arrive in the room before the screening of a short video that puts this integral part of Maori culture into context.<\/em>says Christiane Reynier.<em> Then<strong> the slides scroll with the text, the movements to be made<\/strong>. Our haka men throw themselves into it, putting their soul, their strength and their conviction into it. And the audience follows. That's what I like about the haka.<\/em> \"After working for a number of other companies, he set up his own business within the La Malle aux artistes association, launching his Haka Team website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By opting for this activity rather than a cooking or wine-making workshop, companies will find a powerful way to<strong> breaking the ice<\/strong> between those taking part in the event or re-energise their teams. A team-building event that can also be used to celebrate the creation of a new division or to create connections within companies that have just merged. \"\u00a0<em>There are many possible motivations<\/em> \"says Arman Vossougui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The haka, the hallmark of close-knit teams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Events lasting between 2 hours and 2.5 hours can also take this team-building dynamic a step further. Beginning with a presentation designed to introduce participants to this aspect of Maori culture, they continue in teams, with each team invited to<strong> create your own haka<\/strong>including words and gestures. \"\u00a0<em>Like a well-known song reinterpreted, they make the haka their own by rewriting it to reflect their company's values, the objectives of the seminar and their vision of the future for their company.<\/em> \"says Christiane Reynier. And finally, for the beauty of the sport, there will be a series of battles to round things off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It's a time for personalities to shine through. Some are usually reserved, but others will take the lead and show that they're not the only ones. <strong>their management skills or creativity<\/strong>Others will let themselves be carried along, with the usual \"dominant\" players not always being the most listened to. \"\u00a0<em>But at the end of the day, everyone has a purpose. This good humour should not obscure the fact that the haka is a meaningful tradition, an ancestral ceremony to be treated with the utmost respect. And it is perhaps from this that it draws its strength. From this immemorial link, updated on every occasion, between the people gathered together, the land that welcomes them and, above, the starry sky. \"\u00a0<em>For a long time, the haka belonged to the Maoris, the New Zealanders. But it's a universal language that speaks to every human being on earth. I don't think I'm stealing anything<\/em> It's a tradition,\" says Arman Vossougui, who insists on placing his practice in the context of this tradition, always telling the story of Te Rauparaha, the Maori chief who composed the Ka Mate haka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, the words tradition and betrayal share a common etymology, both deriving from the Latin tradere. But betraying everything <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>respecting the spirit of tradition<\/strong>in their own way, with their own sensibility. Many Japanese chefs are great representatives of French gastronomy, like Kei Kobayashi, who has three Michelin stars in Paris, while an Israeli-Oriental orchestra like the West-Eastern Divan performs Beethoven or Wagner marvellously, although none of its musicians were born in Bonn or Bayreuth. Nor in Auckland or Wellington, for that matter...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of Maori origin, Sean Spring, who regularly organises haka events at corporate meetings, has no intention of being a judge. \"\u00a0<em><b>If they do it seriously, with their <\/b><strong>heart, <\/strong>with the right gestures, I say bravo<\/em>says the man who is also the father of French international Max Spring. <em>But if they take random lyrics from the internet, make the wrong gestures, do a cheesy dance, then...<\/em>\" . With all the entertainers being Maori, his agency, Haka Evenements, gives companies a real guarantee of authenticity. All the more so since Sean Spring went to the Ngati Toa tribe - to whom the Ka Mate belongs - to seek their approval for the right to perform it. \"\u00a0<em>We know what we're doing and why we're doing it, to share our culture. Sometimes people come up to me at the end and say they've seen haka interpretations before, but this was nothing like it.<\/em>\" . United Colors of Haka or Canada Dry haka, you have to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/entreprises-rugby-histoire-valeurs-20230907.html\/\" data-id=\"153425\">Rugby: communicating team spirit to businesses<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jonathan-cave-myphy-le-haka-offre-un-bagage-pour-rendre-les-equipes-performantes\"><strong>Jonathan Cave (MyPhy): \"The haka offers a way for teams to perform well\".<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Founder of the MyPhy company, which focuses on executive coaching and the organisation of leadership conferences, Jonathan Cave concentrates his activities mainly on Switzerland, a country that is, after all, rather far removed from the world of rugby. And yet, in his sessions, this trainer of New Zealand nationality does not hesitate to use the ritual for which his country of origin is famous: the haka. <strong>\"\u00a0<em>There are all the elements of a good team in the haka<\/em><\/strong><em> a crazy energy, a common drive<\/em>he notes. <em>We've always done it at school, sometimes over 1,000 people dancing together. It's very rare in our society to find something that creates such bonds of brotherhood.<\/em> \".&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jonathan-cave.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-156079\" width=\"177\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jonathan-cave.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/jonathan-cave-300x247-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 177px) 100vw, 177px\" \/><figcaption>Jonathan Cave (MyPhy)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, during his coaching sessions, Jonathan Cave focuses on <strong>the spirit of the haka rather than its form<\/strong>. An illustration without gestures or words based not on the traditional Ka Mate, but on Kapa o Pango, the haka specially composed for the All Blacks in the mid-2000s. And it says a lot about the continued success of this team for over a century. \"\u00a0<em>People see the haka as a spectacle, an island dance, but what's interesting is what's intentional, the whole psychology behind the All Blacks' performance.<\/em>\" he explains, often giving James Kerr's management book as a recommended reading.<em> Legacy<\/em>, <em>\"The Secrets of the All Blacks - 15 leadership lessons<\/em>\u00a0\"in French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On closer inspection, the choreography is far from trivial and will speak volumes to business leaders: players grouped together in the form of an arrow pointing towards a goal; <strong>strong, joint and coordinated action<\/strong> words that put everyone in their place and in their role, with the first part focusing on the<strong>individual <\/strong>and its present - \"\u00a0<em>this is my moment<\/em>\u00a0\"and a second where the <strong>\"we<\/strong> is superimposed: \"\u00a0<em>our domination is growing, our supremacy is manifesting itself<\/em> \". All of which gives substance to the idea of \"why be together\", with the excellence of each individual blended into the collective, all aligned towards the same goal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\"Clarity, alignment, energy: the haka offers a way for teams to perform well and be unified in the face of all challenges.<\/em>\" says Jonathan Cave. Especially since, more than long speeches on management methods and relations in the workplace, this message is focused on managerial ends. <strong>rooted in memory<\/strong> of participants: \"\u00a0<em>If the information is not linked to strong sensations, it will be forgotten. Through its power and the emotion it generates, the haka is a way of keeping this learning inside them.<\/em> \".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonathan Cave often kicks off his leadership training courses with a twenty-minute session devoted to Kapa o Pango. <strong>a haka of cruel memory for the French<\/strong>who were beaten 62-13 by the Men in Black in the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup... <em>\"I don't give anything away, it's up to them to come up with things, to ask themselves the question of this formation in the air, to find the position of the team captain which is not that of the dance leader. From there, the haka can be linked to the team's problems, and the components necessary for its future success can be identified.<\/em> \".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ritual at the start of the training sessions is matched by a closing ritual at the end of the day: the Ka Mate, performed in a lively manner by their trainers, who see this traditional haka as a way of<strong> connect to a story bigger than your own<\/strong>, \"\u00a0<em>the timeless wisdom of his ancestors<\/em> \"It has been passed down from generation to generation. \"\u00a0<em>I stand in front of them, they are grouped arm in arm like the All Blacks' opponents, and I launch out<\/em>says Jonathan Cave. <em>It leaves a very strong final impression, a shared emotion that brings tears to the eyes of some.<\/em> \".<\/p>\n<\/aside>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">Article 8 of 11 in this dossier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/destination\/rugby-world-cup-dossier\" class=\"series-2403\" title=\"Rugby World Cup dossier\">Rugby World Cup dossier<\/a><\/div><p>Everyone will have seen the famous All Blacks haka at one time or another.
