And <strong>it looks threatening for Amsterdam Schiphol airport, one of the two major hubs of the Air France-KLM group<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-plan-de-reduction-des-vols-a-schiphol-des-2024\">A plan to reduce flights at Schiphol from 2024 onwards<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>On 1 September, the Dutch government announced that it wanted to reduce noise pollution and CO2 emissions from aviation more sharply at the airport.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/amsterdam-schiphol-restrictions-20230407.html\/\">Amsterdam Schiphol<\/a>. <strong>It wants to increase the number of flights from November 2024 onwards from...<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vapo-content\" style=\"display:none\">\r\n<p>What's going on in the minds of Dutch politicians? The environment is a major issue for the planet, but it also seems to be the bedrock of local politicians' bidding war. And <strong>it looks threatening for Amsterdam Schiphol airport, one of the two major hubs of the Air France-KLM group<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-plan-de-reduction-des-vols-a-schiphol-des-2024\">A plan to reduce flights at Schiphol from 2024 onwards<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>On 1 September, the Dutch government announced that it wanted to reduce noise pollution and CO2 emissions from aviation more sharply at the airport.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/amsterdam-schiphol-restrictions-20230407.html\/\">Amsterdam Schiphol<\/a>. <strong>It would like to see the number of flights reduced from 500,000 to 452,500 a year from November 2024.<\/strong>. Let <strong>a decrease of 9.5 % compared to 2019 levels<\/strong> and even a reduction on the previous proposal of 460,000 flights\/year.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Transport Minister Mark Harbers justified the decision by explaining that \".\u00a0<em>while aviation brings a lot to the Netherlands, we need to be aware of the negative effects on the people who live near the airport<\/em>\" .<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\">\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>noise targets can be achieved in a better way, which would be of real benefit to local residents, the climate, airlines and the Dutch economy<\/p>\r\n<cite>Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n<\/aside>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>KLM, the main operator at Schiphol, was quick to respond. In a press release, <strong>the company's CEO, Marjan Rintel, condemned the fact that \"\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>the Minister chooses to focus unilaterally on capacity reduction as the sole objective<\/strong>. We find this incomprehensible. <strong>It's not about the number of air movements, it's about noise reduction.<\/strong>. However, the noise objectives can be achieved in a better way, which would be genuinely beneficial for local residents, the climate, the airlines and the Dutch economy.<\/em>\" she explained.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-l-alternative-environnementale-de-klm\">KLM's environmental alternative<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Last June, KLM presented <a href=\"https:\/\/news.klm.com\/klm-group-presents-plan-ensuring-greater-reduction-in-night-time-noise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>a plan to reduce the impact of aviation activity at Schiphol<\/strong><\/a>. A plan that has been verified by independent environmental impact assessment bodies. <strong>KLM affirms that the introduction of new-generation aircraft that are quieter and more fuel-efficient, as well as improved management of movements on the ground and in the air, will bring about the same objectives.<\/strong> <strong>than those of the Minister<\/strong>. Or even better.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"571\" class=\"wp-image-157799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2-1024x571-derived.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2-1024x571-derived.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2-300x167-derived.png 300w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2-768x429-derived.png 768w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/infographiccleanerquietermoreefficient2.png 1258w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>\r\n<figcaption>KLM's noise reduction plan compared to the Dutch Transport Minister's plan (Graphic: KLM)<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The Minister has set a target of reducing noise by 15% at night and 24% over 24 hours by November 2024.<\/strong>. <strong>KLM expects to complete night-time noise reduction by early 2024<\/strong>. And points out that the 24-hour targets will be met from 2026 with the delivery of new aircraft. According to KLM, the social cost of its plan will also be lower. <strong>It is estimated to cost \u20ac25 million a year, compared with \u20ac1 billion for the transport minister's plan.<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Unfortunately, this is no longer the only obstacle facing the airline. A new front has just been opened, this time by the Dutch parliament. <strong>wants to pass a law that would tax transfer passengers<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-les-passagers-en-transfert-dans-l-oeil-du-cyclone\">Transfer passengers in the eye of the storm<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>According to Parliament, such a tax proposal should be adopted because transfer passengers make no economic contribution whatsoever to the surrounding communities. Apart - of course - from causing more damage to the environment.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The tax would probably be modelled on the \u20ac28.20 already paid by departing passengers.<\/strong>. This means that, if it reaches the same amount, the<strong>a passenger transferring to Amsterdam would pay an additional \u20ac56.40 for a return ticket<\/strong>. Such taxation would certainly discourage passengers from transiting via Schiphol.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-157807\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/500-spencer-36.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/500-spencer-36.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/500-spencer-36-300x199-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>A robot in charge of helping transfer passengers (Photo: KLM)<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>According to airport figures, transfer traffic is a major component of the Dutch airport's business. Out of 52.47 million passengers in 2022, transfer traffic generated 19.25 million. This represents 36.6% of total traffic. In the first eight months of 2023, transfer traffic accounted for 35.9%. Or 14.6 million out of 40.72 million passengers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>KLM immediately took action. <strong>For the company, transfer passengers represent 60% of the total number of passengers.<\/strong> ! Marjan Rintel believes that <strong>Schiphol could lose a third of its transfer passengers as a result<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Limiting flights and taxing transfer passengers would be the only way to ground KLM and Schiphol airport. But <strong>general elections<\/strong> scheduled for November could once again change the situation...<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vapo-widget\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authoritarian reduction in the number of flights and now a possible tax on transfer passengers.
