{"id":161447,"date":"2023-11-06T11:56:08","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T10:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=161447"},"modified":"2023-11-06T12:09:55","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T11:09:55","slug":"interview-roberto-rinaudo-trenitalia-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/interview-roberto-rinaudo-trenitalia-france","title":{"rendered":"Interview with : Roberto Rinaudo, Chairman of Trenitalia France"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quel-bilan-dressez-vous-de-l-arrivee-de-trenitalia-en-france\">How would you assess Trenitalia's arrival in France?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Roberto Rinaudo - <\/strong>The results have been very positive, even though we have had to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trenitalia-focus-paris-lyon-20231012.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">we <strong>concentrate on Paris-Lyon <\/strong><\/a>due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/italie-ferroviaire-france-20230830.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>landslides <\/strong><\/a>at the end of August in the Maurienne valley, which caused the <strong>service to Milan suspended until June <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/ligne-ferroviaire-paris-milan-2024-20231004.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024<\/a><\/strong>. Our <strong>fillings <\/strong>were over <strong>80% <\/strong>on the <strong>Paris-Milan <\/strong>and are greater than <strong>65% <\/strong>on the <strong>Paris-Lyon<\/strong>which is constantly increasing. All this with 95% of satisfied customers, particularly business travellers who have a choice on board the trains between Executive, Business, Sala Meeting and Standard, our 2nd class. They appreciate the presence of electrical sockets and ports. <strong>USB<\/strong>the <strong>wifi <\/strong>and the existence of a portal providing access to <strong>films, videos or newspapers<\/strong>. It also allows you to order and be served a <strong>meal instead <\/strong>in Business or Standard class [this service is included in Executive class]. In the end, <strong>our arrival has enabled us to increase our offer, lower prices and improve the quality of the service we provide<\/strong>. La <strong>competition stimulates growth<\/strong> because the <strong>SNCF <\/strong>also recorded good results on these two routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are Trenitalia's ambitions?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Roberto Rinaudo - <\/strong>Trenitalia hopes to <strong>increase services on the Paris-Lyon route<\/strong> but we need the<strong>authorisation from SNCF R\u00e9seau<\/strong>the infrastructure manager. The aim is then to expand onto the high-speed network in France and Europe, towards Belgium and the Netherlands for example. Economic and technical studies are under way to identify the next openings, the availability of train paths, the stations served, etc. <strong>Announcements are expected in the coming months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\"><blockquote><p>the solution would be to lower ticket prices, which would lead to an increase in volumes by stimulating demand for travel. This virtuous model is working in Italy.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/ferroviaire-ouverture-concurrence-france-20231106.html\/\" data-id=\"161387\">Rail: opening up to competition finally on track in France<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the biggest obstacle to opening up competition in France?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Roberto Rinaudo - <\/strong>This is unquestionably the <strong>cost of rail tolls<\/strong> which is, for example, four times more expensive on the Paris-Lyon route than on the Milan-Rome route. In this case, the cost of the infrastructure is borne by the airlines, whereas it is partly covered by the State in France. <strong>Italy<\/strong>. This complicates the business model and <strong>forces new operators to position themselves on the most profitable routes<\/strong>. We need to find the right equation to <strong>reduce tolls by around 20%<\/strong> while managing to make up the difference for SNCF R\u00e9seau, which is responsible for track maintenance. In my opinion, the solution would be to <strong>lower ticket prices <\/strong>which would lead to <strong>increase in volumes<\/strong> by a <strong>stimulation <\/strong>of the <strong>request <\/strong>travel. It's this virtuous model that works in <strong>Italy <\/strong>where tolls were lowered by 38% in 2015 on the high-speed network. This was followed by an increase in sales thanks to a fall of more than 30% in fares. This model obviously involves<strong>increase traffic capacity on TGV lines<\/strong> and to have <strong>enough trains <\/strong>to implement this volume policy. It's a long process, but in my opinion it's the right one. <strong>inevitable in France<\/strong>. And that will benefit travellers. Then there is the cost of energy, which last winter rose from \u20ac112 to \u20ac473 per megawatt-hour. To lower the bill, Trenitalia has signed up with a new energy supplier, Endesa [a subsidiary of Italy's Enel], as it is no longer obliged to use SNCF R\u00e9seau's services in this area.
