Blues lost in their shades. Watercolour greens flecked with ultramarine, soft pinks at sunset. This is how the South Seas, particularly around the French Polynesia<\/strong>Their colours are like formidable seductresses, captivating the gaze of the uninitiated. In these islands, many people have been bewitched by the hallucinating mystery emanating from both nature and the local population, in sync with its geography and so proud of its Maori origins. It's no cinematic illusion, the sense of thehospitality<\/strong> is legendary in the Antipodes. It's evident as soon as you step off the plane, right on the tarmac, with songs accompanied by the ukulele and a general distribution of flowers of tiar\u00e9<\/strong> woven into necklaces, sometimes embellished with tiny shells. It's an art of living in which the Pacific Ocean is the main protagonist, inviting groups to laze by the lagoon where the manta rays fly, then to venture beyond the passes to brush up against the whales and dolphins, accompanied by myriads of flying fish.<\/p>\n

Tahiti and her islands offer a wide range of incentive holidays, from the most classic to the most original, on volcanic islands with impenetrable forests and rustling waterfalls, or on low-lying islands with white beaches and transparent lagoons. In Tahiti, in the lush Papenoo valley, groups can discover archaeological sites and spectacular landscapes, with Le Relais de la Maroto at the end of the trail, home to some excellent wines. You can also have fun \"doing\", as they say, the monoi route through the tiare fields, glimpse the secrets of production and marvel at the traditional skills involved in producing this beneficial oil. In Moorea, pineapple cultivation is the main theme of a day exploring the island, which ends with a grand Tahitian evening at the Tiki Village, a reconstructed Tahitian village with its traditional far\u00e9s, home to craftsmen and artists. This is your chance to sample Tahitian cuisine, including cooked bananas, breadfruit and fruit cooked in coconut milk, and to watch a show worthy of the greatest Parisian cabaret shows. On the island of Raiatea, the highlight is a visit to the royal marae of Taputapuatea, a sacred site where people from all over the Pacific islands used to gather for ceremonies in large pirogues. Today, you can still see these pirogues - not quite the same ones, the first ones being, for the most part, the centrepieces of the world's greatest museums - during the Hawaiki Nui Va'a, a race held both on the high seas and in the lagoon. The spectacular event takes place in October between Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa and Bora-Bora. On Tahaa, nicknamed the vanilla island, groups visit the plantations to see how the flowers are pollinated, the pods dried and sorted.Tahaa is also home to an emerald lagoon where you can picnic in style, with your feet in the water on the edge of a motu. There's lobster, of course, and plenty of grilled fish, a wonderful moment spent gazing at Bora Bora's Mount Otemanu in the distance.<\/p>\n

Sharks, rays, turtles, whales...<\/h3>\n

Bora Bora. Certainly the most famous of the Leeward Islands<\/strong>This is still the dream destination for honeymooners. It is here, right next to the coral garden, that the sharks and rays have their peaceful meals. You can also visit a turtle farm here. On land, a 4\u00d74 excursion takes you up to the American remnants of the Second World War, where the view over the lagoon is perfect. Then there's theTetiaroa atoll<\/strong>The Brando, the hotel that Marlon Brando fell in love with during the filming of \"The Rising of the Bounty\" in 1960. Fifty years on, The Brando, an eco-friendly hotel, is due to open at the end of 2012. There will be no bungalows on the water and it will not be visible from the ocean; it will use cutting-edge renewable energy techniques, with a system for air conditioning based on deep-water extraction. The weather is almost always fine in Polynesia, and the sea is always warm. This means that you can meet many species of shark or, between August and November, turtles and whales. Of course, all kinds of sea sports are available. Excursions by kayak, outrigger canoe or submersible. There's also water-skiing, jet-skiing, underwater scootering, parasailing and deep-sea fishing. Another simple but unforgettable gastronomic experience: just before the plane home, try the Papeete roulottes, which are set up every evening on the harbour. It's an institution, with custom-built lorries fitted out like restaurants called Chez Michou, Chez Roger, \u00c0 la boule rouge, etc. Raw fish, kebabs, Chinese dishes, huge mussels, cr\u00eapes and more are served on small tables, in a friendly atmosphere that brings together locals, international stars, tourists and politicians alike.
