{"id":164205,"date":"2023-12-14T12:14:46","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T11:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=164205"},"modified":"2023-12-15T09:17:18","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T08:17:18","slug":"venice-airport-slovenia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/venice-airport-slovenia","title":{"rendered":"Venice: rail links to its airport and Slovenia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If <strong>Venice<\/strong> seems frozen in time, this is not quite the case for its railway lines. <strong>Two parallel projects will provide new connections for the former City of the Doges with its neighbours and airport<\/strong>. Starting with a <strong>project for a high-speed train between Venice, Trieste and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/ljubljana-metropole-a-taille-humaine-20101107.html\/\">Ljubljana<\/a>Slovenia's capital, a 240 km line. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite sharing a common border, notably at Trieste, <strong>Italy and Slovenia are not linked by a direct train<\/strong>. This was the case in the past. During the Austro-Hungarian era, the Vienna-Venice line included stops in Ljubljana and Trieste. Until 2008, a regional train still linked Trieste to Ljubljana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11 December, <strong>tests were carried out by the Italian rail operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trenitalia-puissance-paris-lyon-20231120.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trenitalia <\/a>between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/venise-legendes-hotel-renovation-20220615.html\/\">Venice<\/a> and Sezana<\/strong>near the Italian border. This trial should finally bring to fruition the project for a rail link between the city of Trieste and the Slovenian capital, which had been envisaged in 2021. However, this project never materialised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the trial is successful, it should help <strong>the reintroduction of this cross-border service in April 2024<\/strong>. <strong>The train would depart from Venice-Mestre and reach Villa Opicina, near Trieste, before continuing on to Ljubljana.<\/strong>. A bus journey between the Slovenian capital and Venice currently takes an average of 3h30 to 4h00. <strong>A rail link should reduce the journey to less than 3 hours, almost on a par with the car.<\/strong>.  \"\u00a0<em>The time seems right to re-establish a cross-border service between the two countries<\/em>\" FS Italiane, Italy's national railway company, stated on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-une-gare-en-aeroport\">From station to airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another major project is a rail link with the<strong>Venice airport<\/strong>. It would strengthen the hub role of the north-eastern Italian air hub. Venice is the <strong>Italy's fourth-largest airport <\/strong>with an annual passenger volume in excess of 10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project involves the construction of a new section of line around 8 km long, which would connect to the historic Venice-Trieste line, and the construction of a new section of line between Venice and Trieste. <strong>new \"Venice-Airport\" underground station<\/strong>. The airport would thus be linked by train directly to the whole of Veneto and Northern Italy, as well as to Trieste and potentially Slovenia. <strong>The construction of the line<\/strong>whose investment represents <strong>644 million euros<\/strong>,<strong> to be completed by mid-2025<\/strong> for commissioning at the end of that year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A major rail infrastructure project aims to create new train lines from Venice to its airport and on to Slovenia via Trieste.
