{"id":165591,"date":"2024-01-10T11:36:53","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T10:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=165591"},"modified":"2024-01-22T15:09:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T14:09:42","slug":"strike-paralyses-german-railways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/strike-paralyses-german-railways","title":{"rendered":"New strike paralyses Germany's railways until 12 January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>La <strong>Deutsche Bahn<\/strong> had hoped for a last-minute miracle following the announcement of<strong>a general strike on trains from 10 to 12 January by the GDL railway workers' union<\/strong>. DB had twice gone to the Labour Court (Arbeitsgericht) in Frankfurt to prevent the strike. <strong>Court rejects Deutsche Bahn's injunction<\/strong> to put an end to the legal dispute with the union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new strike once again has <strong>massive repercussions on German rail operations as a whole, particularly in the country's major cities<\/strong>. In a press release, Deutsche Bahn (DB) expressed its deep regret that <strong>million passengers<\/strong> be affected again by this strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/greve-trains-allemands-20240122.html\/\" data-id=\"166661\">German trains heading for a week's strike action<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However, the rail operator is introducing an emergency timetable for long-distance services.<\/strong> with a much reduced range of routes. For these journeys, DB is introducing longer trains with more seats to get as many people as possible to their destination. <strong>However, DB cannot guarantee that everyone will find a place.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, on 11 January, 9 trains will be running between Hamburg and D\u00fcsseldorf instead of the usual 30 or so. On the Paris-Stuttgart route, <strong>SNCF <\/strong>and <strong>DB <\/strong>have closed bookings on TGVs with <strong>the cancellation of ICE trains<\/strong>. So it's hard to say that everyone will be able to travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are also very few services on regional routes<\/strong>. However, it varies from region to region. Most suburban train lines (S-Bahn and Regionalbahn) are affected in the cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-le-conseil-de-la-db-reporter-son-voyage\">DB's advice: postpone your trip<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DB is therefore advising travellers to postpone their journeys. All tickets can be cancelled and travel postponed to a later date.<\/strong>. This may be accompanied by a change of route to the final destination. <strong>The DB website and application<\/strong> give all the information on traffic conditions over 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is highly likely that other strikes will follow, as the GDL union has warned of an unlimited, renewable strike. The main demand is a reduction in the working week from 38 to 35 hours for equal pay.
