For several months, KLM's hub has been torn between its natural quest for growth and the political will to limit traffic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/amsterdam-schiphol-2-20231115.html\/\" data-id=\"162029\">Amsterdam Schiphol: pressure from the United States wins out over environmental resolutions<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>In detail, the report published at the beginning of January by the airport's management provides some interesting insights into the types of journeys made to, from or via the Dutch hub. For example, the <strong>connecting traffic<\/strong> accounted for more than a third of operations (36%), while 39.1 million passengers took a <strong>direct flight<\/strong> to or from <strong>Schiphol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/schiphol-amsterdam.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-165991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/schiphol-amsterdam.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/schiphol-amsterdam-300x226-derived.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/schiphol-amsterdam-80x60-derived.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 425,994 passenger flights were recorded last year at <strong>Amsterdam<\/strong>to cover a network of <strong>305 destinations<\/strong>including 126 intercontinental routes. Management notes that 16 airports disappeared from Schiphol's catalogue last year, due in particular to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/guerre-russie-ukraine-impact-20230224.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">war in <strong>Ukraine<\/strong><\/a>. Conversely, the hub has seen an increase in connections to two business destinations : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/mexico-city-reforma-20170421.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mexico <\/a>and Beijing. However, the United Kingdom, Spain and the United States are the most popular destinations from Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-eindhoven-fait-le-plein\">Eindhoven fills up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/eindhoven.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-165989\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/eindhoven.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/eindhoven-300x168-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the shadow of the Netherlands' main hub, <strong>Eindhoven <\/strong>did very well last year. The airport even had a record year. With <strong>6.8 million passengers<\/strong> welcomed during the year <strong>2023<\/strong>Eindhoven airport has recorded growth of 8%, from 6.3 million passengers in 2022. At the same time, it exceeds 2019 traffic (6.7 million) to reach the highest number of passengers in the airport's history. <\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reconciling sustainability and growth: the 10 commandments of the Dutch sky<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While Schiphol airport was looking back at the year 2023, the Dutch aviation sector was joining forces to imagine a future in which air mobility strikes the right balance between ambition and environmental responsibility. A joint action programme was published on <strong>January 11th<\/strong> by <strong>31 signatories<\/strong>These include <strong>KLM <\/strong>and <strong>Transavia<\/strong>the Dutch Association of Travel Managers (<strong>NATM<\/strong>) and Airbus Netherlands. In this <strong>a plea for \"cleaner, quieter and stronger aviation\".<\/strong>10 commitments were listed. The aim is to draw up a joint action programme with the Dutch public, politicians, partners and stakeholders in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These commitments include investment in SAF, quieter and less frequent flights at night, and the development of rail services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"334\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/plaidoyer-nl.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-166067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/plaidoyer-nl.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/plaidoyer-nl-300x143-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em>The plea brought together some thirty signatories<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, \"\u00a0<em>Only by working together with government, research institutes and industry can we take significant steps towards cleaner, quieter operations. The Netherlands has the expertise, infrastructure and entrepreneurs to lead the way. The ten concrete commitments adopted by the Dutch aviation sector show what we stand for, what politicians can do to achieve these ambitions and what the Dutch people have to gain. Together, let's build a future-proof airline industry for all<\/em>\" pleads Marjan Rintel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mobilisation of the airline industry comes against a backdrop of confusion, and calls for greater consultation and clarity: \"As an industry, we can only achieve these commitments in collaboration with the Dutch government. We need clarity in order to transform our commitments into a joint action programme\", the press release stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Camiel Verhagen, head of the Dutch Airline Pilots Association (VNV), is calling on politicians to \"<em>advocate a level European playing field in terms of equivalent social rules and safety standards for non-European airlines that have free access to our citizens.
