The capital of the <strong>Latvia<\/strong> is entering 2024 with even greater ambitions, this time in the aviation sector. As a symbol of this metamorphosis, the airport is adopting a new visual identity, behind the name <strong>RIX Riga Airport<\/strong>. But the transformation of the gateway to Latvia's capital goes far beyond a simple makeover...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riga airport will be launching two major projects this year. Starting with a <strong>new passenger terminal <\/strong>construction of which is due to begin in <strong>second half<\/strong>. Local officials intend to be able to inaugurate the <strong>2028 <\/strong>a new infrastructure that is sustainable, modern and ergonomic. The new terminal will cover some 45,000 m\u00b2, at an estimated cost of 167 million euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/vilnius-aeroport-nouveau-terminal-20250120.html\/\" data-id=\"190099\">Vilnius: final stretch for the new terminal<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix-airport.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-167993\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix-airport.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix-airport-300x120-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>The terminal at Riga airport will be adjacent to the station of the new Rail Baltica network<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Riga airport intends to build a new urban centre adjacent to the airport, an aerotropolis called <strong>RIX Airport City<\/strong>which will cover a total area of <strong>24 hectares<\/strong>. The programme includes hotels, offices and other commercial spaces, as well as services dedicated to travellers and residents. RIX Airport City will offer a <strong>new business district<\/strong> to the Latvian capital, while at the same time establishing itself <strong>multimodal hub<\/strong> which is so strategic for the region. Because a <strong>station <\/strong>will be set up right next to the new airport terminal, which will be home to the network's trains. <strong>Rail Baltica<\/strong>. The biggest project to be undertaken in the Baltic region for over 100 years...&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/rail-baltica-trains-20190314.html\/\" data-id=\"83927\">Rail Baltica: high-speed trains for the Baltic region<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-167991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/rix-300x170-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\"RIX is becoming an emerging hub of Northern Europe and a next-generation air-rail hub thanks to its strategic location along Rail Baltica, a high-speed link connecting the three Baltic capitals to the high-speed rail networks of Finland, Poland and Germany,\" summarise the project managers. \"When completed in <strong>2028<\/strong>Rail Baltica will offer comfortable connections between <strong>Riga airport<\/strong> and <strong>Tallinn<\/strong> and <strong>Vilnius<\/strong> at <strong>less than two hours<\/strong>. Frequent transfers to Riga's central station, just 8 minutes away, will turn RIX into a \"one-stop shop\". <strong>an extension to the central business district<\/strong>.
