{"id":168333,"date":"2024-02-16T10:46:35","date_gmt":"2024-02-16T09:46:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=168333"},"modified":"2024-02-16T12:35:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T11:35:05","slug":"persian-gulf-visa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/persian-gulf-visa","title":{"rendered":"A Schengen-style visa for the Persian Gulf States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are preparing to launch a common tourist visa modelled on the existing Schengen visa.<\/strong> in the European Union. The idea, initially launched in 2021, has been approved by six GCC countries:<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/arabie-saoudite-giga-projets-hotels-20230606.html\/\"> Saudi Arabia<\/a>Bahrain, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/hotels-moyen-orient-afrique-2024-20240111.html\/\">United Arab Emirates<\/a>Kuwait, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sultanat-oman-authentique-20200309.html\/\">Oman<\/a> and Qatar<\/strong>. The interior ministers of the six countries concerned unanimously adopted the resolution at the end of 2023 in Oman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan is to introduce visas for leisure and business tourists only. Such a measure will be a <strong>a huge step forward for business travellers<\/strong> in the region, as it will <strong>remove the requirement to obtain separate visas<\/strong> to travel to these six countries and reduce costs. A common visa will facilitate intra-regional travel, <strong>stimulating MICE activities in particular<\/strong>. <strong>The visa should be valid for a period of 30 days<\/strong>. It will be available online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch of this GCC visa has <strong>no precise timetable yet<\/strong>. The most optimistic observers are talking about an official launch later this year - probably in the second half of the year. On the other hand, the most pessimistic are talking about a launch in 2025. <strong>A number of technical details remain to be resolved<\/strong>: <strong>visa reader compatibility<\/strong> in the immigration systems of the six countries, agreement on the <strong>price of the visa<\/strong>, <strong>integration of safety data<\/strong> to limit fraudulent use or the movement of undesirable travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-le-tourisme-en-2023-au-dessus-des-resultats-de-l-avant-covid\">Tourism in 2023 above pre-Covid levels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This second regional visa will boost tourism, which is already booming in the region. Indeed, according to initial estimates by UNWTO, the UN's tourism agency, the<strong>he Middle East was the only region in the world to record a higher number of tourists in 2023 than in 2019<\/strong>. This last year serves as a benchmark, since it corresponds to the period before the Covid pandemic. UNWTO estimates that with <strong>87.1 million international arrivals<\/strong>the region has seen <strong>growth of 22.1%<\/strong> compared with 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>GCC States<\/strong> did even better. <strong>With 61.5 million arrivals, they saw growth of 28.9% compared with 2019<\/strong>. L'<strong>Saudi Arabia<\/strong> has boosted tourism in the CCGs. With <strong>27 million international arrivals by 2023<\/strong>the country has seen <strong>an increase of 156%<\/strong> compared with 2019. <strong>Dubai followed with 17.15 million tourists<\/strong>This is 2.5% more than its record for 2019 (16.73 million tourists). <strong>Qatar also recorded the highest number of tourists in the last 5 years<\/strong>or <strong>4 million arrivals<\/strong> in 2023.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are finalising the launch of a common visa for tourists modelled on the Schengen visa.
