{"id":171333,"date":"2024-04-02T12:17:41","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T10:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=171333"},"modified":"2024-04-02T12:17:41","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T10:17:41","slug":"railcoop-arrete-bordeaux-lyon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/railcoop-arrete-bordeaux-lyon","title":{"rendered":"Railcoop pulls the plug on its Bordeaux-Lyon route even before launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tackling the <strong>SNCF<\/strong> and opening rail lines in France, whether conventional or high-speed, is a long and difficult journey, fraught with pitfalls. <strong>Railcoop<\/strong> has just paid the price, with the directors of this original project announcing on 27 March that they were winding up their SCIC (soci\u00e9t\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative d'int\u00e9r\u00eat collectif).<br>They decided to anticipate the decision that would have been handed down by the Cahors Commercial Court on 15 April. The final blow came ten days ago when Railcoop lost a dispute with ACC-M, a company claiming 800,000 euros in costs for guarding its first two trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/railcoop-sur-le-point-derailler-20220523.html\/\" data-id=\"125463\">Is the Railcoop project about to be derailed?<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-bordeaux.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-171341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-bordeaux.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-bordeaux-300x169-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-une-idee-utopique\">A utopian idea?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in <strong>2019<\/strong> Railcoop was a first in the French rail industry, but it had already won over a number of French companies. <strong>15,500 members<\/strong> who had not hesitated to put their hands in the wallet to relaunch the line <strong>Bordeaux-Lyon<\/strong> which serves P\u00e9rigueux, Limoges, Montlu\u00e7on and Roanne. It's a long route - 6h30 - and structurally loss-making, which led the SNCF to cut costs years ago. Eager to <strong>supporting the economic development of areas that have been somewhat neglected<\/strong>several <strong>local authorities<\/strong> had even become members. But this was not enough to unlock the financial support of the banks or the<strong>And yet, the State is not afraid to talk about revitalising the railways and its cross-border lines.<\/strong>. Recent discussions with Spanish and French funds came too late for the cooperative, which has been in receivership since October 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/regions-timides-ouverture-concurrence-20231106.html\/\" data-id=\"161435\">The Regions shy away from opening up rail services to competition<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-train.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-171339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-train.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/railcoop-train-300x157-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-manque-de-capitaux-constant\">A constant lack of capital<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Railcoop seems to have been too <strong>optimistic<\/strong> in its development plan, which called for it to open in <strong>2022<\/strong> with <strong>6 trains a day<\/strong>underestimating the many obstacles to be overcome. First and foremost was the financial cost of the project, which, according to the experts, would have required a <strong>capital of \u20ac50m<\/strong> while members raised \"only\" \u20ac8.5m. Because we need <strong>finding and renovating used trainsets<\/strong>Railcoop had to either obtain the necessary authorisation from the French authorities, which is currently a challenge in France, or place an order with specialist manufacturers, which would have delayed the launch by 3 to 5 years. Although Railcoop obtained its authorisation from the authorities, it then had to battle with <strong>SNCF R\u00e9seaux<\/strong> to obtain the precious <strong>furrows<\/strong> necessary for its trains to run. Faced with these start-up delays, Railcoop finally had the bad idea, between the end of 2021 and April 2023, of launching a freight transport activity, particularly for timber, between Capdenac in Aveyron and Toulouse. A diversification that ultimately proved unprofitable in the face of fierce competition from road haulage.
