In the wake of its merger with Thalys, Eurostar has unveiled its first sustainability report, detailing its sustainability commitments and current progress in this area. The first objective, the most important for its fleet of 51 trains, is to reduce its energy consumption and use 100% of renewable energy<\/strong> to have this fleet on the road by 2030. Progress varies from country to country. Wind power already supplies all the electricity needed for traction in the Netherlands and 40% in the UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Belgium, Eurostar<\/a> has just signed an agreement with Infrabel, the network operator, to install photovoltaic panels<\/strong> close to the tracks in order to power the TGVs in circulation. However, nothing has been said about the French part of the network, where nuclear-generated electricity predominates. However, SNCF, which owns 56% of Eurostar's capital, is engaged in an equivalent process, hoping to use between 40% and 50% of green energy by 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
