Air transport up in Germany<\/a>but perhaps not as much as hoped. These are the findings of the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), which has just published its results for the year. 2024<\/strong> for 22 main German airports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Declining traffic between Germany and France<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Federal Statistical Office also gives precise figures for each destination from German airports. This gives a snapshot of traffic trends by country, including France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the seventh most important destination <\/strong>with 3.16 million passengers<\/strong> from German airports. France ranks fourth in the European Union, behind Spain (14.75 million passengers), Italy (6.96 million) and Greece (4.89 million). It is ahead of Portugal (2.66 million) and Austria (2.27 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared with 2019, However, traffic between Germany and France fell by 19.65%<\/strong>. At that time, the number of passengers travelling from Germany to France was approaching the 4 million mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we look at the German airports generating the most traffic with France, Frankfurt <\/strong>leads the way with 905,729 departing passengers, followed by Munich <\/strong>(851,232 passengers). In third place came Berlin <\/strong>with 696,390 passengers, followed by Hamburg <\/strong>(269,967 passengers) and D\u00fcsseldorf<\/strong> (184,754 passengers). The latter saw a significant fall in traffic due to the reduction in capacity on the route with the withdrawal of Eurowings<\/strong>.
