While Europe is struggling to roll out its system <strong>ETIAS<\/strong>the British authorities have already taken the plunge. From <strong>2 April<\/strong> Next year, this pass will be compulsory for all French travellers wishing to visit the United States. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/royaume-uni-autorisation-voyage-electronique-20220721.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United Kingdom<\/a><\/strong>. And you can do it right now, via a dedicated application or on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">government website<\/a>. On this occasion, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/eurostar-reprise-amsterdam-londres-20250210.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eurostar<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong>VisitBritain<\/strong> provide an update on the new formalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/le-monde-dans-tous-ses-eta-20241113.html\/\" data-id=\"184923\">The world in all its ETAs<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"497\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/eta-uk-app.jpg\" alt=\"Electronic travel authorisation (ETA) can be requested via a dedicated application\" class=\"wp-image-193385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/eta-uk-app.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/eta-uk-app-300x213-derived.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/eta-uk-app-100x70-derived.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Electronic travel authorisation (ETA) can be requested via a dedicated application<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\"><blockquote><p>If possible, make your application before you book your trip to the UK. Most applications are processed within three days, but this may be extended in certain cases.<\/p><cite>Eurostar<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-une-augmentation-tarifaire-deja-en-vue\">A rate increase already in sight <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ETA system was launched at the end of 2023, and already concerns major countries such as the United States and Australia. More than a million electronic authorisations (1,091,475 to be exact) have already been granted since then. And now it's Europe's turn to see the arrival of the ETA system. In less than a month, all non-British and non-Irish citizens - with rare exceptions - will be required to obtain this electronic travel authorisation, regardless of their age. L'<strong>ETA<\/strong> is invoiced <strong>10 books<\/strong>for the moment... \"\u00a0<em>As with all our expenses, the cost of an ETA is under review, and will be paid in full. <strong>we intend to increase the cost of an ETA to \u00a316 in the future<\/strong>subject to Parliament's approval<\/em>\u00a0\"warns VisitBritain. \"\u00a0<em>We have always been clear in our communications that we are keeping the cost of an ETA under review, and we will provide more information in due course on when the cost will increase.<\/em>\" . The date of the increase was not long in coming: from 9 April, the fare will rise to \u00a316 (<em>information updated on 24 March<\/em>).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/virgin-concurrent-eurostar-paris-londres-20250310.html\/\" data-id=\"193765\">Virgin, Eurostar's future competitor between Paris and London?<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The average waiting time is estimated at <strong>3 days<\/strong> to obtain the precious sesame. However, Eurostar officials point out: \"As far as possible, make your request before booking your journey to the UK. Most applications are processed within three days, but this may be extended in some cases\". Authorisation is <strong>valid for two years<\/strong>or until the passport concerned expires. The ETA is incorporated directly into the applicant's passport. What's more, it can be used to make several trips to the UK, for a single journey. <strong>maximum duration of 6 months per trip<\/strong>. At the time of application, travellers must provide their biographical and biometric data, and answer a few questions on \"fitness and criminality\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\"><blockquote><p>we are paving the way for a contactless UK border, ensuring a seamless travel experience for visitors in the future<\/p><cite>Seema Malhotra, Minister for Migration and Citizenship <\/cite><\/blockquote><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-parcours-client-inchange\">Unchanged customer experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Eurostar's management wants to reassure passengers about the impact of the deployment of ETA. The company promises a <strong>\"Unchanged customer experience<\/strong>and provides that there will be no <strong>no extra waiting time at the station<\/strong>. Nevertheless, the carrier has posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurostar.com\/fr-fr\/voyage\/en-route\/formalites-frontalieres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>checklist\" tool <\/strong><\/a>to enable travellers to quickly identify which travel documents, visas and identity papers they need. And Eurostar is planning to \"educate\" future passengers by e-mail between one and five days before they travel, to avoid any unpleasant surprises...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Minister for Migration and Citizenship, Seema Malhotra, \"securing our borders is one of the cornerstones of the UK Government's plan for change and, by digitising the immigration system, we are paving the way for <em>a contactless UK border, ensuring a seamless travel experience for visitors in the future<\/em>\" .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/autorisation-electronique-royaume-uni-europeens-20250402.html\/\" data-id=\"196465\">ETA comes into force in the UK<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quelles-perspectives-pour-le-tourisme-en-2025\">What is the outlook for tourism in 2025?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of February, VisitBritain unveiled its forecasts for the number of tourists visiting the UK. 43.4 million visitors are expected this year, an increase of 5% compared with 41.2 million in 2024. Last year, these visitors are estimated to have spent more than \u20ac38 billion (\u00a331.5 billion). British tourism is therefore reaching record levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as the business segment is concerned, although volumes increased last year compared to 2023, VisitBritain deplores a significant delay compared to 2019. \" <em>The UK has lost around 1.5 million business visits since the pre-COVID period. Much of this decline is in routine business travel; MICE visits have not fallen as much. <\/em>\"said the British authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we anticipate the<strong>ETA effect<\/strong> ? It's hard to say, but VisitBritain officials fear that \". <em>the risk of a greater-than-expected response to ETAs<\/em> \". The authors of the 2025 outlook report put the impact on long-haul markets into perspective, given what the cost of sesame will represent in comparison with total expenditure. But the European market could be hit even harder. \" <em>It is assumed that [ETAs] will have a small negative impact in Europe, as the proportion of travel spend would be higher there, and the non-financial impact could be greater in markets where, on average, perceptions of hospitality are lower and other requirements (e.g. passports) have recently been tightened.
