According to the Spanish press, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/renfe-reporte-ouverture-toulouse-barcelone-20250407.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Renfe <\/strong>is considering closing its French routes<\/a> in the face of the obstacles put in the way of its development in France by the <strong>SNCF and the French State<\/strong>. The discord continues to stem from the Spanish company's difficulties in obtaining authorisations to operate on <strong>Lyon-Paris<\/strong> while its AVEs have been serving the Lyon-Barcelona and Marseille-Madrid routes for the last two years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/renfe-concurrence-paris-lyon-20231218.html\/\" data-id=\"164329\">Renfe, a new competitor on the Paris-Lyon route<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The carrier was already hoping to obtain traffic rights on this crucial route for the summer of 2024, during the Olympic Games. Once the sporting event was over, Spain's Transport Minister, Oscar Puente, roundly criticised SNCF and France for their double standards, while the <strong>Since 2021, SNCF has been present in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sncf-ouigo-espagne-20200923.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spain with Ouigo<\/a><\/strong>his low-cost brand, which now has more than 20% of the Spanish high-speed rail market. At the time, Oscar Puente declared that he was \" <em>not very optimistic<\/em> \"on the fact that Renfe can take passengers from Paris-Lyon station\". <em>in 2024 or even 2025<\/em> \". And he is threatening to take the matter to the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/renfe-lyon.jpeg\" alt=\"A Renfe train at Lyon Perrache station \" class=\"wp-image-194817\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/renfe-lyon.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/renfe-lyon-300x143-derived.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Renfe could leave the French market<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quel-avenir-pour-la-desserte-toulouse-barcelone\">What future for the Toulouse-Barcelona service?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/renfe-million-passagers-france-20250212.html\/\">break the one million passenger barrier in France<\/a>the <strong>Renfe <\/strong>is putting pressure on the media to get things moving. Obtaining the authorisations would enable it to increase its passenger numbers and traffic by gaining access to the lucrative route market. <strong>Paris-Lyon<\/strong> on which Trenitalia is also steadily gaining momentum. This should help to reduce the financial losses incurred by the costs of launching the service in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trenitalia-paris-marseille-20250312.html\/\" data-id=\"194043\">Trenitalia launches Paris-Marseille service from \u20ac27<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, withdrawing Renfe from France would look bad and tarnish SNCF's image a little more with customers who consider its services to be too expensive. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/sncf-augmente-tarifs-2025-20250107.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ever-higher prices<\/a> and are hoping for a real opening up to competition. This decision would also have a negative impact on traffic to cities in the south of France currently served by AVE : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/montpellier-belaroia-marque-territoire-20241021.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Montpellier <\/a>but also Narbonne and Perpignan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/beziers-tourisme-affaires-mice-20230801.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">B\u00e9ziers<\/a>N\u00eemes and Aix-en-Provence. And possibly Carcassonne and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/perpignan-mice-france-20241119.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Perpignan<\/a>Renfe was planning to open the stations on the Toulouse-Barcelona line next April, initially on a seasonal basis.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Spanish company is complaining about the obstacles
