Why keep it simple when you can keep it complicated? Just over a year ago, the European Union announced it was abolishing the 100ml rule<\/strong> for liquids<\/strong> and authorise passengers not to take computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices out of their bags. But just three months after this much-appreciated easing of controls by travellers, here we have the EU reimposed the previous rules<\/a><\/strong>. Some scanners are not efficient enough...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of July, the EU confirms that it will again lift the restriction on liquids<\/strong>allowing take up to two litres in carry-on baggage<\/strong> during security checks at European airports. The European Commission has worked with the European Civil Aviation Conference<\/strong> (CEAC) to develop technical solutions for seamless security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dozen airports without restrictions, but none in France<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Except that not all the scanner systems have been tested. And therefore approved. For the moment, airports using a manufacturer's 3D CT scanners are considered reliable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other brands of scanners are being tested as and when required. This is confusing passengers. Not all airports are certified.<\/strong> to accept liquid containers larger than 100 ml. Worse still, some of them do not have the same type of device depending on the terminal used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the moment, a dozen airports are approved.<\/strong>. They do not currently include any French platforms where the 100ml per liquid rule still applies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, the European Union has lifted restrictions on the airports of Rome Fiumicino (Terminals 1 and 3), Milan-Linate and Milan Malpensa (Terminal 1), Naples<\/strong> in Italy; Amsterdam Schiphol<\/a><\/strong> allows unrestricted baggage scanning in part of the terminal. Dublin, Cork and Shannon<\/strong> have also lifted restrictions. As have Berlin-Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Terminal 1A), Munich (in part) and Stuttgart<\/strong> in Germany. Finally, the restriction has also been lifted for terminal 5 at Stockholm-Arlanda airport<\/strong>. Spain, meanwhile, is already working on a rapid lifting of the restrictions. The Commission has promised to act quickly once other brands of scanners have been approved. And to offer a unified service extended to all EU airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, to avoid being trapped by these unified rules, it's best to stick to the old 100ml rule<\/strong>. Or not to take any liquid items at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
