Airlines now only reward passengers who pay the highest fares. And <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/menace-greve-air-canada-20250807.html\/\">Air Canada<\/a> is no exception to the rule<\/strong>. <strong>From 1\u1d49\u02b3 January 2026, points on the Aeroplan programme will no longer be accumulated on the basis of distance travelled, but on the basis of amounts spent.<\/strong>. Behind the promises of \"frequent promotional offers\" lies in reality a tightening of the screws on the part of the Canadian carrier. The new allocation grid will in fact favour full-fare paying passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/greve-air-canada-paralysee-samedi-20250816.html\/\" data-id=\"205393\">Air Canada paralysed by strike action since Saturday<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>For example,<strong> access to status<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1020\">Super Elite<\/strong> <strong>will now cost 37,500 C$ per year (\u20ac23,400)<\/strong>. Until now, it represented an expense of around 5,000 C$ (\u20ac3,120) under the old distance-based system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A flight from Montreal to Vancouver, which used to earn 4,300 points, will now generate only 200 to 800 points.<\/strong> according to the tariff paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Air Canada justifies this change by pointing out that \". <em>the most active members don't just travel: they collect points from our partners and via Aeroplan credit cards<\/em> \".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The logic is to reward spending capacity rather than geographical loyalty. <strong>Business class passengers will therefore receive more points than economy class passengers.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/montreal-energie-creative-20181024.html\/\" data-id=\"78987\">Montr\u00e9al: a source of creative energy<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-125-000-credits-pour-la-super-elite\">125,000 credits for the Super Elite<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another new feature: <strong>the introduction of <em data-start=\"1781\" data-end=\"1822\">Qualification credits towards a Status<\/em> (CQS), which further complicate access to higher status<\/strong>. To achieve Super Elite status, you will now need to accumulate 125,000 CQS. That's <strong>25 % more than today<\/strong>. An equation that would be impossible to achieve without a high level of expenditure on Air Canada. Or with the airline's partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be done by <strong>using an Aeroplan credit card<\/strong> (for Canadian passengers only). As well as<strong> flights with Star Alliance partners<\/strong>. Or any other partners in the programme, such as hotels or car rental companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Air Canada, \" <em>these changes are designed to better recognise the participation of members who spend more and are more active in the programme<\/em> \". This commercial optimisation rationale is justified by the cost generated by frequent flyer programmes for airlines.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Air Canada has announced a major
