{"id":205365,"date":"2025-08-14T09:24:50","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T07:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=205365"},"modified":"2025-08-14T15:35:02","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T13:35:02","slug":"airasia-x-istanbul-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/airasia-x-istanbul-europe","title":{"rendered":"Return to Europe announced for AirAsia X"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AirAsia X, the long-haul branch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/airasia-fusion-unique-compagnie-20240109.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AirAsia Group<\/a>finds its way back to Europe<\/strong> more than 13 years after it ceased serving the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/air-asia-x-en-passe-de-deserter-paris-20111220.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris <\/a><\/strong>and <strong>London <\/strong>from Kuala Lumpur. At the time, the AirAsia group explained the withdrawal of its subsidiary by the soaring oil prices, the increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/aerien-nouvelle-taxe-classe-affaires-20250708.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">taxes <\/a>and the introduction of a European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From<strong> 17 November 2025<\/strong>the Malaysian company will be launching<strong> a direct route between the capital of Malaysia and the airport of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/istanbul-bosphore-creativite-20220713.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Istanbul<\/a> Sabiha G\u00f6k\u00e7en<\/strong>. The latter, based in Asia, is already an aviation giant. The platform has recorded <span data-huuid=\"2562091924019242414\">41.49 million passengers last year, including almost 22 million on international routes. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/airasia-europe-golfe-20250707.html\/\" data-id=\"203241\">Airasia rethinks Europe<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The route will be operated four times a week on board an Airbus A330-300, offering a two-class configuration, including a Premium class. However, the airline will be <strong>competition with Turkish Airlines<\/strong>which offers up to three daily flights between Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur. The airline will therefore have to fight in the price segment to attract passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\"><blockquote><p>a transformation to become the world's leading low-cost carrier network<\/p><cite>Tony Fernandes, co-founder of AirAsia and Managing Director of Capital A<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vers-une-compagnie-d-audience-mondiale\">Towards a company with a worldwide audience?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tony Fernandes, co-founder of AirAsia and Managing Director of Capital A, describes this approach as a \". <strong><em>transformation to become the world's leading low-cost carrier network<\/em> <\/strong>\". He emphasised that the aim was to stimulate growth, connect regions beyond ASEAN and \" <em>making air travel more democratic<\/em> \".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AirAsia's return to Europe through its long-haul subsidiary is part of an ambitious globalisation strategy. The vision of a global presence has in fact been confirmed by the signature with <strong>Airbus <\/strong>an order for <strong>50 A321XLR with options for a further 20 aircraft<\/strong>. It would provide non-stop service to so-called \"secondary\" destinations in Europe such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/athenes-crise-et-redressement-20190506.html\/\">Athens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/geneve-luxe-calme-et-efficacite-20160107.html\/\">Geneva <\/a>or Bologna. The A321LXRs would complement a delivery of 14 A330-900s and 20 A321neo aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Istanbul route is being launched at the same time as the <strong>withdrawal of AirAsia X from Africa<\/strong>. The carrier has decided to definitively suspend its service to Nairobi in Kenya. Launched in the summer of 2024, the route has never really met passenger demand. In other news,<strong> <\/strong>AirAsia X will start operating three flights a week between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent (Uzbekistan) on 15
