After the project by the Spanish-Italian duo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/evolyn-eurostar-paris-londres-2026-20231013.html\/\">Evolyn<\/a>\/Trenitalia it is now the turn of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/virgin-wins-competition-for-eurostar-2030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virgin Trains<\/a><\/strong> to announce the signing of an agreement with the group <strong>Alstom <\/strong>for the construction of <strong>12 Avelia high-speed trains<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/virgin-concurrent-eurostar-paris-londres-20250310.html\/\" data-id=\"193765\">Virgin, Eurostar's future competitor between Paris and London?<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-quote\"><blockquote><p><em>We're going to wake up the cross-Channel travel market with our own signature, delivering a service that's innovative, bold and incredibly Virgin.<\/em><\/p><cite>Richard Branson<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>This announcement follows its application to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) to operate this fleet on the HS1 line, which links the Channel Tunnel to London's <strong>St Pancras International<\/strong>. Richard Branson's group is planning a <strong>total investment of \u00a3700 million for its project<\/strong>. However, the order with Alstom will only be confirmed if the ORR gives a positive response to this project, which aims to initially operate services from <strong>London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam<\/strong>. In other words, on exactly the same routes as Eurostar, although the number of daily rotations operated by Virgin Trains will be lower given the size of its fleet.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Branson has welcomed the project, saying \"&nbsp;<em>that having successfully challenged the incumbents in the air, in cruises and on the rails [Virgin Trains has operated regional lines in England, editor's note], we are ready to do it again. We will <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/eurotunnel-plus-trains-manche-20231215.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revitalising the cross-Channel travel market<\/a><\/strong> with our own signature, delivering an innovative, bold and incredibly Virgin service<\/em>&nbsp;\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/eurostar-londres-francfort-geneve-2030-20250610.html\/\" data-id=\"201679\">Eurostar wants to link London to Frankfurt and Geneva after 2030<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-eurostar-met-la-pression-sur-le-gouvernement-britannique\">Eurostar puts pressure on the British government <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a letter sent at the end of July, Eurostar asked the British government to define \"a credible long-term strategy\" for cross-Channel services. The SNCF subsidiary is reluctant to see competitors arrive at a time when it is <strong>the only operator on the Paris-London route since 1994<\/strong> and that it has just launched a vast investment plan to support its growth linked to the operation of routes to Frankfurt and Geneva by 2030. He goes on to explain that the arrival of Virgin Trains, the Spanish-Italian tandem Evolyn\/Trenitalia and even the English start-up Gemini could call into question its current investment in the acquisition of 50 high-speed trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stumbling block concerns access to the railway maintenance workshop at <strong>Temple Mills<\/strong> located in East London. Eurostar is currently the only operator to use this depot, and believes that it cannot be shared with other operators, as this would have a negative impact on train operations and passenger service. The company is therefore suggesting to the ORR and the UK government that existing capacity should be increased by extending Temple Mills or building a second depot. The ORR is expected to make its decision on whether or not to share this depot in October.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/uber-trains-concurrent-eurostar-2029-20250901.html\/\" data-id=\"206319\">Competition from Eurostar: now it's Uber Trains'
