With, <strong>the Pennsylvania Station in New York<\/strong>Penn Station, the busiest in the United States with 650,000 passengers a day. Penn Station\" or who knows, one day \"Trump Station\", with Transport Secretary Sean Duffy having told American journalists that \"Trump will be the first person to use Penn Station\".<em> that sounded good<\/em> \" ? Whatever happens, everything will depend on the success of its reinvention, which has been dormant for several decades after numerous failed attempts.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\" <em>The current state of Penn Station is unacceptable: crumbling infrastructure, dark and dirty architecture, impassable corridors and a lack of welcoming spaces for families with children.<\/em>said the US Secretary of Transportation. <em>Under President Trump's leadership, we will transform Penn Station into a world-class transit hub that is beautiful, safe and clean.<\/em> \"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\">\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/new-york-mammana-nyc-tourism-2025-20250102.html\/\" data-id=\"188391\">Read also: N. Mammana (NYC Tourism): \"2025: a great time to come to New York\".<\/a><\/p>\r\n<\/aside>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To ensure that everything goes smoothly in this brave new world, the Trump administration has taken control of<strong>a project previously managed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority<\/strong> of New York (MTA), the operator of the city's subways and two commuter trains. For several years now, the MTA has been working hard on the gradual overhaul of the station, estimated to cost 7 billion dollars.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Renovation of the lower concourse, new entrances, improved accessibility: located on the west side of Manhattan, close to the new Hudson Yards business district, the station, which lives on the achievements of its<strong> built in the 60s<\/strong> has already undergone recent improvements. What's more, at a time when its traffic is reaching saturation point, construction of two new rail tunnels under the Hudson has already begun.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But the pace was probably not fast enough for <strong>move this project forward\". <em>at Trump's speed<\/em> \"<\/strong>as the Secretary of State for Transport Sean Duffy put it, quoted by the<em> New York Times<\/em>. And yet it has little to do with major rail projects, as can be seen from the freeze on funding for high-speed lines at the end of the year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/trump-ligne-grande-vitesse-dallas-houston-20250417.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a> last April and now in California, Donald Trump and his administration intend to complete the upgrade of the station that everyone has been waiting for.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"wp-image-206225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/penn-station-interieur-.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/penn-station-interieur-.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/penn-station-interieur--300x200-derived.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Penn Station had already undergone recent improvements.<\/em><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To achieve this, the State Department of Transport took the baby out of the MTA's hands last spring and put it in the hands of the <strong>public railway company Amtrak<\/strong>one of the major users of the site, along with NJ Transit trains and MTA subways. In the end, this did not seem to displease the Democratic governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, as her state was thus exempting itself from a 1.3 billion dollar investment, with the federal government and Amtrak picking up the bill for their part.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To give itself the means to succeed, Amtrak has hired a \"Mr Penn Station\", Andrew Byford, former President of New York City Transit and <strong>a great connoisseur of the sector<\/strong>who has managed the transport systems in Toronto and, more recently, London. On 27 August, the Secretary of State for Transport announced that work would begin before the end of 2027. With a fast-track timetable that will see the unveiling of potential developers in October, before a competition whose results will be announced in May 2026.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Enlarged footprint for the station, <strong>moving the legendary Madison Square Garden venue<\/strong> Over the years, there have been a number of hypotheses, but nothing has been decided, apart from the refusal to demolish an entire block to the south of the station. Another possible change would be to make Penn Station a transit station on the way to Manhattan, rather than a terminus. According to the New York Times, the companies using the station had long been opposed to this, but Andrew Byford seems to be promoting the idea and has convinced the federal authorities.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\" <em>With Secretary Duffy pushing the project forward and asking for design proposals, New Yorkers are getting a little closer to<strong>a station worthy of this great city<\/strong><\/em> \"said the Governor of the State of New York. As for what her name will ultimately be? C.'s Union Station, the US capital's major transport hub. C., the US capital's major transport hub. Its expansion, at a cost of 10 billion dollars, has just been announced. <strong>put on standby <\/strong>by the State Department of Transportation, with the federal government owning the building. The announcement was made by Secretary of State Sean Duffy at the same time as he attended the launch at Union Station of the new-generation Acela high-speed trains, assembled by Alstom in the United States and recently delivered to Amtrak.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Long planned, but still in the planning stage when Joe Biden left the White House, this project included the construction of the<strong>a larger, more modern hall<\/strong>The aim is to increase the station's capacity and improve connections between metro trains, Virginia and Maryland regional trains and Amtrak high-speed trains. \"\u00a0<em>Expansion is what we need to develop our city and our region<\/em>\" pleaded Charles Allen, a member of the D.C. City Council, quoted by the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\">\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/tgv-usa-boston-washington-20250828.html\/\" data-id=\"206197\">Read also: Faster high-speed trains between Boston and Washington<\/a><\/p>\r\n<\/aside>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Rather than spending billions of dollars on its expansion, the Trump administration will focus on the station's immediate needs, the profitability of the commercial spaces in partnership with Amtrak, but also... <strong>safety.<\/strong> For this sea serpent has not been buried solely for reasons of price or the size of the project. It is also part of the process of taking back control of the city, as the National Guard patrols the American capital to fight crime. According to Washington police figures, violent crime in 2024 reached its lowest level for 30 years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For years, the station has been the site of one of the city's largest homeless camps, which will be dismantled in 2022. But although a fatal shooting took place in its car park in February, \"<strong><em>\u00a0the situation at the station has improved\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\"notes <em>Washington Post<\/em>This is particularly true since Amtrak took control of the commercial side of the business and opened new shops.
