But local officials have high ambitions, particularly in the corporate segment, where business tourism now accounts for a third (34%) of visitors. \"&nbsp;<em>Hosting business delegations is a strategic challenge for French Guiana<\/em>&nbsp;\"says the management of Guyane Amazonie, the Tourism Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/mice-experience-salvation-islands\/\" data-id=\"212617\">French Guiana or discovering the history of the penal colony<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>\"&nbsp;<em>In addition to promoting the destination to the general public, the Comit\u00e9 du Tourisme de la Guyane aims to capitalise on the presence of business tourists by encouraging them to discover and consume the local tourism offer and then to extend their experience beyond their professional commitments.<\/em>&nbsp;\". You said \"&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/bleisure-the-best-of-both-worlds\/\">bleisure&nbsp;<\/a>\" ? French Guiana is undoubtedly an area worth exploring for professionals wishing to combine business with pleasure. And the CTG intends to capitalise on these many assets. \"&nbsp;<em>The institution is also keen to assert its position among players in the MICE sector. The latest example of this commitment was when the Association of Tourism Journalists (AJT) held its General Meeting here last November. The challenge - met with the help of teams from the Guyana Tourist Board - was to bring together some 80 professionals familiar with major events and MICE destinations. French Guiana thus follows in the footsteps of leading destinations such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/dominican-republic-mice-caraibes\/\">Dominican Republic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/marseille-vent-du-mice-jo\/\">Marseille <\/a>or the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ground-control-to-major-tom\">Ground control to Major Tom...<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To host the meeting, the destination opened the doors of a very unique space to the AJT: the Jupiter 2 control room at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou. This is where more than 230 people normally sit during a launch. \"&nbsp;<em>We are in the room where the launches are piloted.&nbsp;<\/em>\"explains Philippe Lier. We host free tours for the general public, subject to registration, almost twice a day. CNES also owns the Iles du Salut, and we've completely renovated our space museum, which has become the Guyaspace Experience, which has been a great success. Between the visits to the base, the Guyaspace Experience and the complementary visit to the Iles du Salut, it forms a package that is appreciated by visitors, whether personal or professional. Over time, this pristine area has been transformed into an unspoilt landscape, with exceptional flora and fauna - over 700 different animal species - illustrating once again the link between science and nature advocated by the Guianese authorities. Because ecology - so much talked about these days on the Old Continent - has been in our DNA since the dawn of time. Here, \"living well means breathing well\".<\/em> \"says Jean-Luk Le West. The Chairman of the Guiana Tourism Committee is therefore advocating sensible development, especially as, as he admits, \"the tourism industry in French Guiana is still in its infancy.&nbsp;<em>In order to be able to handle a greater flow of tourists, we may need to increase our numbers. French Guiana has only 300,000 inhabitants, and this means that we need to train our industry to welcome a sufficient number of tourists, without of course falling into the trap of mass tourism. <\/em>\". This \"sufficient\" volume is also on the CTG's sheet: \" <em>French Guiana is increasingly open to tourism, with clear objectives: to reach a figure of 250,000 tourists a year by 2030.<\/em>, <em>compared with over a hundred thousand at present<\/em>&nbsp;\"says Jean-Luk Le West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By then, a number of projects will have been completed to support the destination's expansion. Starting with a Casino-Theatre, currently under construction, due to open in 2026 in Cayenne, on the Montabo road. The result of a \u20ac26m investment, it will feature a modular auditorium with seating for 400 (retractable tiers) or 700 (standing). It will also, of course, have a MICE section for seminars and other corporate events.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"289\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/casino-cayenne-1.jpg\" alt=\"Cayenne Casino\" class=\"wp-image-212411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/casino-cayenne-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/casino-cayenne-1-300x133-derived.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/casino-cayenne-1-18x8-derived.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Future Cayenne Casino-Theatre<\/em> <em>(DR)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, a number of new hotels - including the Golden Tulip Toukana, expected to open at the end of 2026 with around 60 rooms - are due to open their doors to boost the accommodation on offer in the destination, which currently has over 1,700 rooms (3 and 4 stars) in Cayenne, Kourou and Saint-Laurent du Maroni. With a special mention for the Mercure Kourou Ariatel (4*) and its 80 suites in bungalow format with kitchenette, completely renovated a few months ago. All the signs are green for French Guiana to become the new Eldorado for French MICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-highlight-box\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-chiffre\">One figure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from the French Guiana Tourist Board, in 2024, business travel to French Guiana accounted for 41.7% of total travel. Relations with neighbouring Brazil could, if they evolve, offer Guyana great prospects, as Jean-Luc Le West pointed out: \" <em>There is one particularity: a Brazilian can come to mainland France for three months, and the same applies to Guadeloupe and Martinique. But to come to French Guiana, they need a visa. There are some surprising things... Franco-French and European protectionism is no longer topical, especially in the context of the Mercosur project...
