Two new hotels and two opposing atmospheres for Marriott in Budapest. On one hand, prestige with a luxurious St Regis in a historic palace. On the other, a playful spirit with its contemporary brand Moxy, which continues to strengthen its presence in Europe by adding a new capital to the east of the continent to its list of addresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Belgrade, Bucharest, and Warsaw, and a total of around a hundred other establishments, Moxy Hotels has set up shop in the heart of one of Budapest's liveliest districts, Kazinczy Street. Budapest's creative energy, nightlife, and cultural scene make it an ideal playground for Moxy Hotels. <\/em>\u00bb said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium, Select & Midscale Brands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new hotel occupies the premises of a former dance institution. Hence, in its design by Austrian firm BWM, subtle references to ballet and movement, as well as to the free and unconventional spirit of Empress Sissi. All of this is present in the interiors, which blend industrial textures with theatrical lighting, and feature a central element: a large contemporary fresco created in the lobby by artist Aron Hidvegi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In keeping with lifestyle trends, the Moxy Budapest Downtown offers lively communal spaces, a rooftop bar, the Saddle & Sky, and will soon feature various dining concepts on the ground floor. With 281 rooms including a workspace, the hotel also has two meeting rooms for business travellers, with capacities of 9 and 23 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contemporary, this new Moxy is also committed to sustainable hospitality, evidenced by its BREEAM Excellent certification, the use of solar panels, the greenery around it, as well as offering 80 charging stations for electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dance with history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Marriott is no stranger to a dance with historical buildings in the Hungarian capital. In 2023, the American group had already taken over the former National Ballet Institute, the Drechsler Palace, to turn it into a trendy W hotel<\/a> overlooking Andr\u00e1ssy Avenue, the Hungarian capital's Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es. Also since 2021, its Luxury Collection has been part of the transformation into a luxury hotel of the Matild Palace, one of two palaces facing each other that, at the same time as the completion of Elizabeth Bridge, gave a new and prestigious entrance to the city of Pest upon their completion in the early 20th century.e<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, it is the turn of its twin, the iconic Palais Klotild, to turn a new page in its history under the patronage of the American group. Built at the request of Archduchess Clotilde of Austria, this Belle \u00c9poque monument, whose eclectic style oscillates between Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau, had already been converted into a hotel in the early 2010s to become a Buddha Bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closed since 2019, the establishment is reborn today with the opening of a luxurious St Regis. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the location offers travellers 63 rooms and 39 suites, managed as expected by butler service and decorated to evoke a private theatre box framed by city views. Notably the Presidential Suite, which spans 169 m\u00b2 and allows guests to admire this panorama from its private balcony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
