This partnership provides access to over 200 cities in Germany and around a hundred in Switzerland, with destinations served by long-distance ICE trains in Germany and by regional DB trains in Germany and InterRegio and RegioExpress trains in Switzerland. The aim is to make train travel easier for French customers, particularly for cross-border journeys.

SNCF Connect also sells tickets in 2nde What about itera class, SNCF discount cards and season tickets not working on eligible trains, however. On a connecting journey across the France-Germany or France-Switzerland rail networks, the Liberté card used by business travellers will thus only apply to SNCF trains: TGV INOUI, Intercités, TER and TGV Lyria under certain conditions… Likewise, discount cards offered by DB and CFF are not supported on SNCF Connect.

More expensive fares on SNCF Connect compared to the DB website

In this way, SNCF Connect facilitates connections between these partner networks, as with this Paris-Dresden journey tested on the platform for travel on 17 July. Similarly, the direct Munich-Hamburg ICE departure at 7:17 am on July 17th is marketed at €85.49 in second class and €96.89 on SNCF Connect, but at €79.99 and €89.99 respectively on int.bahn.de.

Also to read: SNCF Connect forced to sell Trenitalia and Renfe from 2028

SNCF Connect forced to sell competitors' tickets by 1er January 2030?

After the Senate last April, an amendment was tabled in the National Assembly on 25 June which sets the 1er January 2030 the obligation placed on multimodal digital service providers (MDSP), with SNCF Connect at the forefront, to market transport tickets offered by competing freely organised services (FOS) of SNCF Voyageurs In practice, SNCF Connect will have to open its platform to rival companies such as Trenitalia and Renfe, or even to future entrants like Velvet if its high-speed trains run on the Atlantic facade by then. If the Senate wanted an entry into force on 1er January 2028, MPs granted a deadline until 2030 in order to “ align the national calendar with the work currently being carried out at the European Union level » who campaigns for a similar measure to facilitate train travel in Europe as this mode of transport emits 67 times less CO2 compared to by air.

Europe is notably financing a development plan for 10 cross-border lines, including Prague-Copenhagen and Munich-Milan-Rome. SNCF is strongly opposed to the opening of its platform to its competitors on long-distance lines, estimating that this decision would cause it to lose €320 million over the 2030-2031 period. The battle is currently being fought in Brussels, where the CER, the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies, which brings together railway operators, opposes this project led by the European Commission, arguing that Air France, for example, is not obliged to sell tickets for its competitors like Ryanair or Lufthansa.

SNCF Connect is to add 300 German and Swiss destinations thanks to a marketing agreement with Deutsche Bahn and CFF.
