While traffic levels at Heathrow airport reached unprecedented levels in 2011, the hub's utilisation rate was also a record: operator BAA used 99.2% of the capacity offered by Heathrow in terms of the number of departures and arrivals. The London airport, threatened by congestion, helped reduce BAA's losses from \u00a3316 million to less than \u00a3256 million.
