Then I left. I had the feeling that changing attitudes and the economic situation in France would leave little room for individual initiative and make it difficult to practise law. So I struck up a relationship with a Montreal law firm.<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the advantages of immigration in professional terms?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>F. B. - <\/strong>France is a country of paradoxes, teeming with entrepreneurial talent but discouraged by outdated and complex regulations. In Canada, labour relations, including administration, are much less cumbersome, although the social protection system is quite decent. Private initiative is respected and encouraged.<br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What advice would you give to French people looking to move to Montreal?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div>\n<strong>F. B. -<\/strong> Try to make contacts over the course of your stay to get a feel for the mentality. Quebecers are easy to talk to, but things can be different when it comes to work. North Americans are also very protective of their 'family space'. They are naturally warm and the first contact is very easy; on the other hand, this does not mean that a close and deep relationship can be established. However, Quebec encourages Franco-phone immigration and offers specific programmes with France to encourage exchanges, particularly in the university
