The Commission has just granted Deutsche Bahn a \"B Certificate\" - a licence to operate a service through the Channel Tunnel. This brings the German rail company a step closer to the cross-Channel links currently operated by Eurostar. \"Twenty years after its opening, the public authorities are finally opening up the Channel Tunnel to everyone,\" says a delighted Eurotunnel. \"The Eurotunnel group also believes that \"this long-awaited decision will considerably boost trade between Great Britain and Northern Europe (Germany, the Netherlands) and is expected to attract an additional 3 to 4 million passengers a year, on top of the current 10 million high-speed train passengers\".
