Featuring around thirty boutiques, bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues, it is inspired by a European-style pedestrian street, running from the Strip to the Ferris wheel. The public areas are also very colourful, and the rooms are decorated with huge works inspired by pop culture. There's no excess, everything is clean, precise and uncluttered. It's quite simple, there isn't even a casino... However, conventions and events are very welcome, because, at least according to its promotional brochures, the Delano can accommodate groups of between 30 and 30,000 people. The city is dark. The helicopter flies over the Luxor pyramid, then away to the suburbs, before flying over nothing but brown and beige dotted with tufts of dry grass. Then it passes a resort on the edge of a lake - that's where celebrities hide, says the pilot - followed by a mountain a little higher than the others. The helicopter is shaken, the pilot laughs; the passengers, six in all, are green... And again a flat desert, then another lake, followed by an ash-grey moonscape. And finally... the Colorado River. A wide muddy ribbon winding its way as expected - we've seen so many photos - to the bottom of its canyon. The pilot set down his machine, and there was absolute silence; not a bird, not a breath of wind. At the bottom of the canyon, the river rushed by, also in absolute silence. This adds to the strange feeling of eternity that gradually takes over. Orangey mineral, sheared rock volumes, a few stray cacti. It's definitely like a postcard, except you're in the frame. The driver was well aware of this and, to mark the occasion, took out real champagne and real brownies from his trunk, as only Americans know how to do. For his part, he will settle for a fruit juice. And that's just as well, because the return journey will be a bumpy one.
