The death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on the throne for 70 years, has naturally come as a huge shock to the Thai people, even though many were prepared for it given the sovereign's frail health over the last decade. The fervour surrounding the royal figure has resulted in immense mourning, which could cause confusion for visitors to the kingdom.<\/p>\n
In fact, the official private mourning period is 30 days from the death of the sovereign. This means that many places of entertainment have closed their doors - the government having indicated that any decision was up to the owners of the premises. However, hotels, restaurants and bars remain open, with only the more 'fun' attractions having been cancelled.
