This sixth edition is marked by a cautious outlook for the European meetings and events market. Indeed, the report published on 30 November mentions \"<em>a slowdown in the growth that has characterised the last two years, and a reduction in the volume of the European market for all meeting formats<\/em>\". While German companies are more optimistic than the average, expecting a significant increase in spending (3.3%), \"<em>the European trend is towards <strong>stabilisation of budgets allocated to meetings<\/strong><\/em>\"summarises the report. It refers in particular to the \"<em>uncertain political and economic context<\/em>\"This is particularly true in France. According to American Express Meetings &amp; Events, spending by French companies is set to fall slightly next year, by 1.2%.<\/p>\n<p>However, American Express' events division prefers to see the glass as half full. \"<em>A major trend is emerging for 2017: European professionals will be concentrating on <strong>more about quality than quantity<\/strong><\/em>\"says Jose Antonio Ruiz Collado. The Vice President EMEA of American Express Meetings &amp; Events adds: \"<em>Although budgets are stagnating, professionals in the sector are proving to be very creative, delivering projects with high added value. Medium-sized cities, unique venues and smaller events in close geographical proximity are gaining in popularity.<\/em>\". Backed up by figures, this 2017 report confirms the <strong>rise of \"secondary\" destinations<\/strong> In the UK, 81% of meetings are expected to be held in major cities next year, compared with 100% this year. The same is true in Germany, where the figure has fallen from 91% to 81%. However, the main business hubs are still in control of the Meetings &amp; Events market, with 79% of events expected to take place in major cities in 2017. This balance is also reflected in the <strong>top 10 european destinations<\/strong>The rankings are still dominated by the major business destinations. Starting with London, which dominates the 2017 rankings.
