In its annual study of passengers' high-tech habits, SITA, a specialist in technologies for the airline industry, showed that in 2016, almost half of the travellers questioned (46 %) had already watched their in-flight film on their tablet or computer, even more than those who had used the seat screen (44 %).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/cinema-mode-avion-20230522.html\/\" data-id=\"148851\">Cinema in aeroplane mode<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>This <strong>phenomenon known as BYOD<\/strong> - Bring Your Own Device\" has been added to the emergence of WiFi on board aircraft. In-flight connectivity, which is developing at breakneck speed, is paving the way for a new entertainment offering, directly dedicated to tablets and smartphones. In mid-2016, Jet Airways was one of the first airlines to offer a streaming programme called JetScreen, offering 220 hours of audio and video content to entice passengers \"<em>who prefer to access content on mobile devices<\/em>\"explains Michel Simiaut, General Manager for France and Southern Europe for the Indian company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ecrans-fixes-ou-nomades\">Fixed or mobile screens<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It's a fact that passengers travel <strong>with their mobile screens<\/strong>. This has led some airlines to question the relevance of retaining screens at the back of their seats. Among those to have answered in the negative is XL Airways, which recently unveiled its XL Cloud entertainment system, developed by Spanish start-up Immfly and offered directly on passengers' mobile devices. \"<em>Unlike companies that install individual screens, we are not limited by the technology available at a 'given moment'. The rare travellers who do not have an electronic device can hire an iPad Mini for \u20ac15, including access to the Premium catalogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Low-cost airlines are particularly interested in being able to free themselves from expensive investment - an In Flight Entertainment (IFE) system costs three million dollars for a Boieng B767 according to the Wall Street Journal, not to mention the extra consumption generated by its weight - while offering their customers the means to relax during their flight. For example, since the beginning of the year, Air Asia X has been offering the Xcite Inflight Entertainment service on its long-haul flights, combining Hollywood blockbusters and Asian films to be watched on 10.1-inch Huawei Full HD tablets, available free of charge to Premium passengers and for around 15 euros for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-varenne-link-block\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/air-france-divertissements-20230727.html\/\" data-id=\"153143\">Air France expands its in-flight entertainment offer<\/a><\/p><\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>Some medium-sized companies have also adopted this <strong>light\" entertainment policy<\/strong> on all or part of their routes. Air Astana, Bangkok Air, El Al, Hawaiian Airlines, OpenSkies and Pakistan Airlines have all adopted the WoW system developed by Bluebox Avionics, which \"<em>offers an entertainment system on routes and aircraft where traditional systems are prohibitively expensive<\/em>\"explains David Brown, Bluebox's Development Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/WB_0206_compAppInFlight2_1920x1080_300dpi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"324\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/WB_0206_compAppInFlight2_1920x1080_300dpi-324x160-derived.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59817\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Should these developments be seen as <strong>the beginning of the end for integrated IFEs<\/strong>Will American Airlines, as some are predicting, decide not to install them on its future Boeing B737 MAX aircraft? Probably not, because in-flight entertainment plays a big part in the perception of a carrier's quality. As a result, the major airlines seem to be moving towards hybrid strategies. On the one hand, long-haul flights, the most prestigious routes, where passengers appreciate being able to spend time in front of a TV set, are the most popular. <strong>box office must-see<\/strong>On the other hand, medium-haul and even short-haul flights will offer an entertainment solution accessible on tablets and smartphones. This can only be a source of delight for passengers, since video was often non-existent on these flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2016, for example, Air France began testing <strong>the product AF Press Video<\/strong> from Paris CDG to Tel Aviv, Yerevan and Amman. A film and video download platform developed by the start-up Interactive Mobility has been added to the AF Press digital press application. Just as passengers could download magazines and newspapers from 30 hours before departure, they can now select films and series from a catalogue of 70 videos. Last February, 27 routes to Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean were equipped with this new offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-comme-dans-son-canape\">Just like on the sofa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This desire to offer all passengers the means to enjoy themselves can also be seen across the Atlantic. In 2016, one after the other, American airlines announced the introduction of a free offer on all their domestic routes. But here too, there is a difference between short and long-haul services. While Delta Air Lines boasts that it offers its Delta Studio programme on more than 1,000 aircraft, only 400 of these have a screen on the back of the seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The exception that proves the rule<\/strong>JetBlue boasts that it is the first to integrate an IFE in the back of each of its seats. Based on an Android platform, JetBlue's Thales STV + system offers up to 100 live TV channels, 300 films on demand and, of course, free WiFi. \"<em>It's 2017 and our customers expect to be able to connect wherever they are, whether they're sitting on their sofa or 10,000 metres above sea level.<\/em>\"says Jamie Perry, vice-president of marketing for the American company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the arrival of the Boeing B787 and Airbus A350 in airline fleets and the emergence of a new generation of connected systems from the sector's leaders - Panasonic Avionics of Japan and Thales and Zodiac of France - in-flight entertainment is taking a decidedly high-tech turn. The IFEs on board Lufthansa's A350s take advantage of the many ways in which the screens on the back of the seats can interact with passengers' mobile devices. Using the 'Lufthansa Companion' application, for example, passengers can start selecting the programmes they want to watch on their smartphone or tablet up to six weeks before departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once composed, this playlist will be synchronised with the screen when you arrive on board. Similarly, the hundreds of films and TV programmes can be viewed on both the seat screen and the tablet screen. But the tablet can also be used as a second screen to follow the progress of the flight, <strong>watch a sports match<\/strong> or surf the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These interactions open up additional sales opportunities for airlines. What if, for example, while watching a James Bond film on the screen, passengers were offered the chance to order a Dry Martini on their smartphone? Admittedly, we haven't reached that stage yet, but in-flight shopping, which is often very sad, has already developed considerably. The Nordic Sky system launched by Finnair with the arrival in its fleet of Airbus A 350s includes a WiFi portal offering a selection of over 400 products emblematic of Nordic design, such as Makia and Ivana Helsinki clothing and Minna Parikka shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to <strong>in-flight connectivity<\/strong>However, it is above all the organisation of journeys that could be improved. The designer of the Flight Path maps integrated into IFEs, Beria Interactive is thinking, for example, of enhancing its offering with real-time traffic information, enabling business travellers to accurately estimate the time of arrival at their meeting place and book a taxi accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"background: #eff0f0; padding: 10px 15px; text-align: left;\">\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><strong> Everyday comfort<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Netflix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-59915\" src=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Netflix-324x160-derived.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Netflix-300x169-derived.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Netflix.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<div style=\"background: #EFF0F0; padding: 10px 15px; border-bottom: solid 2px #af1b2d;\">Without depriving its customers of their daily routines: on its domestic routes equipped with WiFi, the Australian airline Qantas recently concluded a partnership with Netflix, Spotify and Foxtel to enable its passengers to find their favourite series, music or sports.<br \/>Similarly, several American airlines such as American Airlines and Delta offer their passengers the possibility of connecting to Netflix or Amazon Prime. With the latest generation of entertainment systems, live television in mid-air is also exploding. News junkies and, above all, sports fans will be the first to rejoice. The Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra channels can now be seen on 400 aircraft operated by 13 airlines, with the added advantage of holding the sports rights to many international competitions. According to Panasonic Avionics, this means that \"fans who try to connect to the broadcasts on a business trip will not be disappointed, either because the WiFi does not support streaming video, or
