The Suntec conference centre (4), one of the most high-tech in the world, is also attracting conference-goers.

To underpin this ambition, the Asian metropolis has one key asset at its disposal, namely that it is a centre of excellence in electronics, for example, accounting for 40 % of the world's hard disk production. But this is not its only trump card, as Singapore is also extremely successful in biomedical research and Big Data, with applications in a wide range of fields including banking and finance, tourism and leisure, security and urban planning.
To become the city of tomorrow, Singapore is not only relying on its own strengths, but is also attracting companies and talent from abroad. When it comes to innovative solutions, the technologies developed by French companies are in great demand, from smart energy, biotech and cleantech to intelligent mobility and cyber security. In fact, there are almost 800 French companies operating in Singapore. The most notable contribution in recent months has been that of Dassault Systèmes, which has collaborated with the National Research Foundation to create Virtual Singaporethe technological planning platform that should enable urban development to be managed not only in the city-state but also, and in the longer term, in other major cities around the world.

<img decoding="async" src="https://www.voyages-d-affaires.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/singapour-devonshire-road.jpg" alt="Descendants of the Chinese merchants who settled in Singapore, the Peranakan developed an architecture that has been preserved to this day. If it is to continue to grow, Singapore must find ways of making the most of its particularly cramped and non-extendable territory. Among the solutions, the development of an underground city is envisaged. More and more public spaces, from sports halls to libraries, but also industrial production sites, could open up in the bowels of the city. Storage areas could also be redeveloped. This is already the case with the development of Jurong Rock Caverns, a peninsula near the centre which, thanks to deep drilling, will be able to store up to 150 million m3 of oil on ten or so storeys below sea level. This will free up around sixty hectares of land currently in use.
Nearby Jurong East is becoming a new mixed neighbourhood where people work, of course, but also live and play. This, incidentally, is helping to relieve congestion in the more central districts and even out the differences in population density. It's no coincidence that Jurong East has been chosen as the site for the future high-speed train station that will link the city to the rest of the world. Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in 90 minutes from 2026.
Thanks to the Virtual Singapore tool - which was launched in 2017 at a cost of 73 million Singapore dollars, or more than 46 million euros - new strategies are becoming possible. On this platform, citizens themselves have the opportunity to see what their city will look like tomorrow, and from different angles: services, health, energy, mobility, infrastructure, public and private safety, the environment... Everyone will be able to give their opinion and pool their thoughts on the challenges of the future. Ultimately, this platform could, for example, enable Singaporeans to monitor a sick parent or child remotely.
All the more so as robotics focused on personal assistance in everyday tasks. Before long, robots could also be greeting customers in shops, making suggestions based on their past purchases or taking their orders in restaurants. This high-tech evolution should even create jobs that don't exist today, but that the city-state is already anticipating. " "Singaporeans take a very long-term view - over 30 years.explains Arnaud Leretour. " They plan the future very carefully. "
Alongside Virtual Singapore, a new departmental agency, GovTech, was set up in autumn 2016. In charge of digitising the cityIt works hand in hand with the private sector and gives citizens a voice. For example, users can access Beeline, a mobility platform where users of the various bus routes - which will soon be driverless - can, for example, suggest different routes from those already planned, or ask for detours linked to the existing routes.
to their individual needs.

<img decoding="async" src="https://www.voyages-d-affaires.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/singapour-lesplanade-des-theatres.jpg" alt="Inaugurated in 2002, the Theatre Esplanade, with its durion-like concert hall, is part of Singapore's tourism boom. To meet their obligations in the fight against terrorism and money laundering, banks need to exchange more and more information about their customers and their transactions. To do this, they have to overcome a number of obstacles: poorly adapted banking networks for transporting this content, strict national regulations on hosting it, respect for customers' privacy, the need for proof of authenticity, etc. Identitii has developed a technology that responds to these complexities.
Why Singapore?
O. G - WiN MS is a young start-up created in 2012. We specialise in the diagnosis and monitoring of electrical networks. In conjunction with the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA), we have developed a new patented reflectometry technology that can detect faults very quickly and validate repairs. Initially, WiN MS focused on the aerospace and rail industries, and we are now developing solutions for the automotive industry and electrical distribution networks.
Why did the start-up set up in Singapore?
T. G - When we decided to accelerate our expansion in Asia, it seemed appropriate to set up in Singapore, which is at the heart of South-East Asia and therefore covers the whole region, as far as Japan and New Zealand. What's more, the aerospace industry is very well represented in Singapore. Arnaud Peltier, CEO of WiN MS, put me in charge of the representative office, and after a year in Singapore, we decided to open a WiN MS subsidiary to consolidate our links with our Asian customers.
How do your products meet a specific need in Singapore?
T. We have also established partnerships in Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan and Australia. And, on the strength of our partnership projects with Singapore Airlines and Rolls Royce in particular, we want to recruit and set up a technical team in Singapore. We hope to have a team of around ten employees within a year.

Meet Myljoy Polestico

Managing Director of Zanroo

Singapore has found a way to reinvent itself

How was Zanroo born?
MR P. - Zanroo was founded in Thailand in 2008. It is a marketing technology company based on social listening. The idea is to measure, in real time, trends in topics of conversation. By analysing these conversations, companies can optimise their marketing strategies, product development, brand reputation, etc. For example, in 2011, Thailand suffered very heavy flooding. The Zanroo platform was able to track conversations about the victims - actual and potential - in the areas at risk. Zanroo then published a report of the regions where conversations on this subject were most frequent. This enabled families to identify the level of safety of their loved ones. It was after these events that the Zanroo Insights platform was created in 2013. Within two years, we already had around a hundred customers. And the growth continues, which is why I'm here in Singapore.
Why Singapore?
MR P. - Since the 2008 crisis, Singapore has found a way to reinvent itself. The government is making great efforts to encourage business, and start-ups in particular, in order to support economic growth. Singapore is said to have overtaken Silicon Valley in terms of the number of start-up founders. Zanroo has therefore set up in Singapore, but it is unique in that it was born in Thailand and initially focused on one of the most difficult languages to analyse digitally. Thanks to this major advantage, we have been able to expand into other Asian languages such as Malay and Indonesian, and so, logically, we set up in Singapore. But we now also cover Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog and many other languages. So it was very easy to manage English! As a result, we now have customers all over Asia and hope to establish ourselves in China and India, as well as in Europe and the United States.

Article 1 of 6 in this dossier Special report - Singapore: smart city

Thinking about the future to create an intelligent city by finding sustainable solutions adapted to the challenges of tomorrow?
