In total, there were ten aircraft accidents in 2017 - five of which involved commercial flights - causing 44 deaths, \"\u00a0<em>which <strong>makes 2017 the safest year in history<\/strong>in terms of both the number of serious accidents and the number of fatalities\u00a0<\/em>\"the authors of the report. Aviation Safety Network therefore suggests a ratio of one fatal accident every <strong>7,360,000 flights<\/strong>. For the record, the 2016 ASN report showed 16 accidents and 303 passengers killed.<\/p>\n<p>The low number of accidents is not surprising, according to the <strong>ASN President Harro Ranter<\/strong> : \"\u00a0<em>Since 1997, the average number of airliner accidents has fallen steadily and persistently, largely thanks to the ongoing safety efforts of international aviation organisations such as ICAO, IATA, the Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry.<\/em> \"he explains.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aviation Safety Network (ASN) has published its annual
