Exploring the city by bicycle is of course the most obvious way to get away from it all. However, Utrecht is also a city of canals where you can drift away from the tourist centre and head towards the sea. <strong>romantic Wilhelmina Park<\/strong> offers a real break from everyday life. And it will be even more so once the main canal, which runs around the town, has been rehabilitated and made fully passable. In the 1970s, during the heyday of the motor car, entire stretches of this canal were covered over to create roads. In 2015, an initial effort by the municipality enabled certain sections to be restored to daylight. Another more autonomous option is the Silent Boat, which you can hire and pilot yourself, for an individual exploration of the secrets of the medieval city. The more adventurous can also opt for paddling on the SUP Shool Domstad or, to combine sport and comfort, the pedalo or canoe option.
