{"id":73995,"date":"2018-05-04T15:08:49","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T13:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=73995"},"modified":"2018-05-04T15:08:49","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T13:08:49","slug":"etihad-restructures-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/etihad-restructures-network","title":{"rendered":"Etihad continues to restructure its network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the past year and a half, Etihad has looked more and more like a <strong>normal\" company<\/strong>i.e. for which the\u00a0<strong>profitability<\/strong> is\u00a0<em>the<\/em> key criterion of its business. After years of unbridled expansion in terms of network and fleet, and after the unsuccessful entry into the capital of European airlines <strong>Alitalia and Airberlin<\/strong>Etihad has drawn the consequences of these events <strong>errors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Etihad's difficulties have been exacerbated by the <strong>falling oil prices<\/strong> which have depressed business and leisure markets in the Middle East. After losing $1.87 billion in 2016 - prompting the departure of Etihad's flamboyant CEO <strong>James Hogan<\/strong> - Etihad is therefore seriously considering further restructuring.<\/p>\n<p>The new CEO of Etihad, <strong>Tony Douglas<\/strong>talks about a possible <strong>refocusing on the main lines<\/strong> the network in order to capture the most lucrative market, that of the <strong>business travellers<\/strong>. The least profitable routes, which are usually opened to affirm the carrier's \"global\" character, should gradually disappear. Tony Douglas even hopes to strengthen cooperation with <strong>the eternal rival Emirates<\/strong>whose hub in Dubai is some 120 km from Etihad's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>Among the victims of the Abu Dhabi carrier's restructuring since the beginning of the year are <strong>Jaipur<\/strong> in India, <strong>Tehran<\/strong> and <strong>Dallas<\/strong>. Ho Chi Minh City, Edinburgh and Perth will follow by the end of the year. The South Vietnamese metropolis has already seen a reduction in the number of Etihad flights, from one daily flight to three weekly frequencies since April. But at the end of August, Etihad will suspend this route for good.<\/p>\n<p>While Edinburgh - suspended from October - is of lesser importance for the French market, the discontinuation of flights to <strong>Perth<\/strong> will deprive the market of a possible route via Abu Dhabi. Etihad will stop its daily service to the Western Australian metropolis at <strong>September 30th<\/strong> from Abu Dhabi and on 1 October from Perth.<\/p>\n<p>In French-speaking markets, Etihad continues to offer two daily flights on <strong>Paris<\/strong> as well as a daily flight to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/bruxelles-louverture-europeenne-2-20160129.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brussels<\/strong> <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/geneve-luxe-calme-et-efficacite-20160107.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Geneva<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For its part, Emirates, the Dubai-based carrier, has announced reductions in frequencies on several routes, but a spokesman says that these are seasonal adjustments. The routes affected are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/bangkok-megacity-20180426.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bangkok<\/a>Fort Lauderdale, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, Munich, Orlando and Phuket.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abu Dhabi's national carrier, Etihad Airways, continues to restructure its network and risks losing market share to rival Emirates.
