New York is the busiest destination from Paris, with 2.2 million passengers in 2017. Given this attractiveness, new niche airlines have emerged in recent years to compete with market leaders Air France, American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines. In 2013, for example, OpenSkies, the British Airways subsidiary, launched the principle of \"all business in flight\", offering only business or premium seats, a principle taken up the following year by La Compagnie.<\/p>\n<p>As carriers' offerings continue to evolve, it can be hard to keep track. For example, at the end of summer 2018, OpenSkies will disappear from the skies to be replaced by Level, the new brand. <strong>long-haul low-cost<\/strong> of the IAG Group. \"\u00a0<em>Since the launch of its operations from Barcelona, Level has enjoyed incredible success\".<\/em>said Willie Walsh, IAG's Chief Executive Officer, when announcing the carrier's arrival at Paris Orly.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the offer continues to grow. Since May 2018, there are still <strong>a new company<\/strong> which has now established itself on the French market. It's called Primera Air, it's Danish and, like its Scandinavian counterpart Norwegian, it now offers direct flights at competitive prices between Paris and New York.<\/p>\n<p>If passengers are spoilt for choice, what are the options specifically for business travellers? \"\u00a0<em>The range of airlines offering flights between Paris and New York is immense<\/em>says Thibault Barat, General Delegate of the French Association of Travel Managers (AFTM). <em>The choice ranges from low-cost to the traditional scheduled flights of our national airline. But today, when we talk about <strong>business trips<\/strong>You have to think in terms of 'TCO'.<\/em> (Editor's note: total cost of ownership)\u00a0<em>In other words, full cost. That's why all the new offers from low-cost airlines seem to us to be generally disqualified. Admittedly, the introductory prices are attractive, but all the additional costs - baggage in the hold, meals on board, entertainment or even cover, which can be charged for on some airlines - add to the final bill. With a little forethought, it is possible to find 'restricted' tickets - i.e. tickets that cannot be exchanged or refunded - at very attractive prices.<\/em>\u00a0\"<\/p>\n<p>According to Thibault Barat, today's business travellers need two essential things: <strong>flexibility<\/strong> and a certain level of services. \"\u00a0<em>It is not uncommon to make round trips over two days, just as it is not uncommon for travellers to have changed their ticket two or three times before boarding the plane. These parameters cannot be reconciled with low-cost offers\".<\/em>he points out. Could it be that, contrary to appearances, the golden age of the \"best buy\" in business travel is over? What's the difference?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Jean-Charles P\u00e9rino<\/strong> - For a small airline like ours, operating from a human-sized airport like Orly obviously makes sense. It's also the closest airport to Paris, which is useful for our passengers, and a core target for the business environment. Another important factor is that many passengers from the provinces pass through Orly, which represents more than 10 % of our customer base. Being able to connect them better and more easily is an asset.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since its creation in 2014, what has La Compagnie brought to the Paris - New York air market?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>J.-C. P.<\/strong> - We are the specialists in business class at the best price, exclusively on the Paris-New York route, with all that goes with it: access to lounges, fast track, etc. Usually, on traditional airlines, business class subsidises the shortfall created by economy seats. By focusing solely on business, we can be more aggressive in our pricing, which starts from 1,200 euros, but averages around 2,000 euros, i.e. 30 % to 50 % cheaper than the competition. In terms of comfort, we have turned an aircraft that can seat around 220 into a space with just 74 seats. The result is a club atmosphere and a feeling of being privileged.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does the future hold for La Compagnie?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>J.-C. P.<\/strong> - In the short term, it's the recent transfer of operations to Orly. But between now and next spring, we are expecting the arrival of two new aircraft in our fleet. We will be the French launch airline for the new Airbus 321neo. So we'll be increasing our fleet to three aircraft, because we'll be taking one of them out of our fleet.
