The information was made official in a press release issued by the British airline on 6 September. According to officials, passport numbers and flight details have been spared. British Airways was reassuring, stating that only the bank card used to purchase the ticket had been affected. In addition, the leak is limited to customers who have <strong>book tickets between 21 August and 5 September<\/strong>. \"\u00a0<em>We are deeply sorry for the disruption this criminal activity has caused. We take the protection of our customers' data very seriously<\/em>\u00a0\"apologised Alex Cruz, Chief Executive Officer of British Airways.<\/p>\n<p>The carrier did not go into detail, but announced that the site was back up and running. In order to limit the damage, a British Airways representative also advised readers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2018\/sep\/06\/british-airways-customer-data-stolen-from-its-website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Guardian<\/a> : \"\u00a0<em>Anyone concerned about the risk of fraud should consider <strong>change your password<\/strong> online, from <strong>monitor your bank accounts<\/strong> and other online accounts and to be wary of emails about the breach, as fraudsters may try to take advantage of them<\/em>\u00a0\".<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British Airways has been the victim of a hacking attack. The leak is believed to have affected 380,000 of the airline's customers who purchased tickets between 21 August and 5 September.
