Portugal is a real hit with French tourists. How do you explain this craze?<\/h3>\n

We have a number of advantages that keep pace with demand. While we are indeed seeing unprecedented demand, we remain a destination offering excellent value for money<\/strong>. We have excellent connections, with over 600 flights a week from 22 airports in France. We are recognised for the quality of our infrastructure, services and facilities. All the studies carried out in the field have highlighted the friendliness of the Portuguese. I could add the gastronomy, the climate, the feeling of security... Many assets that the French prefer when they go on holiday.<\/p>\n

These qualities are not new, but have been for some years now. Word of mouth, which has always been very positive, is now multiplied exponentially via social networks. The difference is that it's no longer just us who are promoting our assets, but our visitors. They are our best ambassadors.<\/p>\n

What's more, Portugal's image has undeniably been boosted<\/strong> Over the last ten years, many French companies have invested and set up operations here, and there are an increasing number of French start-ups, not to mention retirees. This contributes enormously to our visibility in the media. Finally, I'd like to think that the work of Turismo de Portugal, our regions and our Convention Bureaux has also had a hand in this.<\/p>\n

Is the same true of business tourism?<\/h3>\n

The destination also attracts MICE groups, for all the reasons mentioned above. The quality\/price ratio, accessibility and the presence of numerous French companies and start-ups established in Portugal are boosting the M.I.C.E. market. The crisis and geopolitical events have also contributed to attracting companies looking for less ostentatious and safer destinations.<\/p>\n

It is also a political and strategic commitment<\/strong>. We have created a specific department at Turismo de Portugal headquarters. Its mission is to identify and attract major international events. A special budget is allocated through the Portugal M.I. programme, to which organisers can apply according to certain criteria. For the past three years, Portugal has been hosting the Web Summit, which attracts some 50,000 participants. We have also launched an online platform, Meetingsinportugal.com, because we want to continue to gain market share and position ourselves as a destination that has become a must for event organisers, buyers and agencies.<\/p>\n

We know about the south of the country, especially the Algarve, but what about the north? What arguments do you put forward?<\/h3>\n

In fact, the Porto region and the north of Portugal are doing better on the French market than the south of Portugal. This can be explained by the fact that French customers visiting Portugal do not focus as much on the sun\/beach segments as English or German customers. The destination sells out all year round<\/strong> very well, including less seasonal segments such as city breaks, city discoveries, touring, senior groups, CE's, golf, surfing and M.I.C.E.<\/p>\n

The North combines a number of geographical attractions, including mountains, nature parks and the Douro river, Unesco natural heritage site<\/strong> and the oldest Appellation d'Origine Contr\u00f4l\u00e9e in the world. There are its cultural aspects, with Guimar\u00e3es in particular being the cradle of the nation; it's a region rich in heritage where granite and Visigoth influences dominate, making it very different from Lisbon, Central Portugal or the Algarve, where it was more the Moors who shaped the architecture. Portugal is a small country, but very varied from north to south.<\/p>\n

On average, how long do incentives stay in the north?<\/h3>\n

I would say that three days are ideal<\/strong>. This makes it possible to combine a visit to Porto with one or two stops in the region. Of course, the Douro valley, with its routes through the Port wine vineyards, and the river and its cruises, are highly sought-after.<\/p>\n

For cruises, then? How many days? Where do they leave from? How far do they go? What are the advantages of a cruise? How many companies?<\/h3>\n

Groups can take a short cruise of a few hours around Porto, or a week-long trip up the Douro to Spain. But, in my opinion, the most suitable Incentive packages are those combining a day's boat trip to R\u00e9gua and Pinh\u00e3o, with a visit to the vineyards and a return trip by road, or even by helicopter.
