Le French government<\/strong> announced last week that it was issuing a call for tenders in 2020<\/strong> to allow competition on two railway lines, which will serve as a test: Nantes<\/a>-Lyon<\/strong> and Nantes-Bordeaux<\/a><\/strong>two minor lines representing a combined passenger traffic of 1.1 to 1.2 million passengers. Rail competition would then begin in 2022<\/strong>This makes France one of the last major countries in the European Union where there is still no competition on domestic routes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

While the EU has set 2023<\/strong> l'definitive opening to competition<\/strong> of railway lines with the 4th rail package, some countries have already seized the opportunity to allow competition to become established. The United Kingdom was the first country to do so, at the end of the 1980s, with all the problems associated with a total and brutal deregulation<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
